Agents raid homes of Rep. Curt Weldons daughter, close friend By John Shiffman, Mitch Lipka and Patrick Kerkstra INQUIRER STAFF WRITERS
Federal agents raided the home of the daughter of U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon (R., Pa.) and his longtime friend Charlie Sexton this morning.
The agents departed Karen Weldon's three-story brick home on Queen Street in Philadelphia with arms loaded with boxes.
A government car pulled into the alley to the back door of the house and loaded boxes into it. Three agents standing in an alley declined to identify themselves.
"I can confirm that we conducted a number of searches regarding an ongoing investigation," said FBI agent Jerri Williams, a spokeswoman in Philadelphia. "Details regarding those investigation cannot be provided because the accompanying affidavit is sealed."
In Delaware County, FBI agents had blocked off Kelli Lane leading to Charles P. Sexton Jr.'s Springfield house, and were removing at least one box and a bag of material from his home late this morning. Sexton, a long time ally of Weldon and a power in Delaware County GOP politics for more than three decades, is a business associate of Weldon's daughter.
The raids came three days after news broke that the FBI is investigating whether the Delaware County congressman used his influence to help his daughter, a registered lobbyist, win consulting contracts.

I agree there is probably corruption in both parties (innocent until proven guilty and all...). That said, did the Jefferson stink scare the Repubs? Are they now going to ignore Dem corruption?
the forces beind this, the slap on the wrist of Sandy Berger, are very powerful - and beyond the control of this administration it would seem.
"How is it that suddenly so many Republican Congressmen are being raided and questioned etc by the FBI???"
I would dam well like the answer to that, as it crossed my mind about the same time it crossed yours!
I also find it strange that Berger got a slap on the wrist. It seems Repubs protect corrupt & criminal Dems.
"Amazing how much influence the Clinton's still have in federal agencies like the FBI."
I think you are right!
I think there's going to be a shoe or two per week against Repubs. The Dems want this bad.
That SOB SOros is behind them.
What this tells me is that Dubya didn't effectively clean house of all the socialist/clintonista leftovers in the fed. Damn shame that the country will have to endure the results of all this....
One thing: many of the unknown people in various agencies are career bureaucrats. They NEVER leave. CIA, State etc.
Thank you. I sometimes have disagreed with him (suitcase nukes), but am not sure about Able Danger. The fact that ex-CIA people are supporting his opponent is telling. I hope your hope comes true. I am more fired up everyday with these tactics of the left.
but there is a chain of authority that ends with a political appointee. look at the Jeanine Pirro case - not an important case mind you, a state AG election in a heavily Dem state. Yet, the US attorney has the time to mount an investigation of the republican candidate for trying to determine if her husband is having an affair - and then his office leaks it to the media a month before the election.
that US attorney should have been fired instantly. was he?
this administration simply doesn't want to engage in the use of executive authority like this. but get this - the administration that left office in 2000, CAN AND DOES.
I think there are laws against a WHOLESALE cleaning, without cause. Goes back to 19th Century, IIRC.
This is (how should I put it?)...chilling.
yout can't fire civil service people.
but that doesn't mean you have to let them run the agency. why have elections then?
ping
"Why do you think nobody appeared to even try to flee that building?"
Probably because they already knew what they did to their puppies and the puppies' mom. Anyone who kills puppies with a shotgun will certainly have no problem killing a human being.
Would Gonzalez had to have ok'd it?
Good question. I don't know the nuances endemic to inside governmental workings.
In theory, yes. It is the duty of all fbi agents to report possible criminal activity by public office holders to the Attorney General.
It is disheartening. I don't know what is going on. It seems this President more than any other I can remember, has been bedeviled by ingrates and libs from day one. I include Secretaries in that description (Powell, the lispy guy before Snowe - O'Neill...)
