ALTOONA -- Miguel Padilla, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, visited Altoona one night and murdered three people after being denied admission to a social club.
He had been in the United States for 17 years and had accumulated an arrest record before he shot his victims. Even so, the U.S. government neglected to deport him, a lapse that led hometown Congressman Bill Shuster to question the competence of the federal bureaucracy responsible for policing immigration.
This month, more than a year after the murders, Altoona implemented a law of its own aimed at driving illegal immigrants out of town. The ordinance, which took effect a week ago, would punish businesses that hire illegal immigrants and landlords who rent to them.

I was more interested in the part of the headline that said there was prompted a 'law against illegal immigrants'. That seems a little...ironic.
Look guys, get used to these headlines. It's only going to get worse.
The Republicans let the RINOs set the stage for allowing and tolerating and encouraging these waves of illegal aliens (NOT IMMIGRANTS!!) to establish a beachhead here, and it's going to get worse when the Democrats take over.
Don't expect the pro-amnesty President to veto the coming Democrat legislation on amnesty and open borders and alien voting. The vector now is toward a civil strife or war in the not-too-distant future when the illegal alien component reaches a critical mass and regions and whole states (California) start using the tools of democracy to separate from the United States.
Like the traitorous Robert McNamara, Karl Rove in his dotage can write books about how mistaken he was and be the toast of the intelligencia set.
If you want a glimpse of our future, look at current feeble Russia and compare it to the superpower that existed before it started losing sections of the old Soviet Union.

Our elected officials call this, 'thinking out of the box.' It gives them something to talk about during election campaigns, and it's a lot easier than actually doing any substantive work.
As for the Altoona law, the ACLU will accept complaints from anybody wrongly ensnared in an immigration case and then decide whether to sue, Mr. Walczak said.

Altoona Councilman Joseph Rieker calls the ACLU "a nutso organization" that is quick to disparage any city trying to live by rule of law.
Mr. Rieker's wife is a native of Lima, Peru. He says they are going through an arduous and costly process so she can become a U.S. citizen.
"We're doing it the right way. I don't have sympathy for people who come here illegally and refuse to go through the steps for citizenship," he said.

The problem is liberal judges and lenient sentences. Illegals should be dealt with once they enter the criminal justice system, but all criminals should be given more appropriate sentences that either discourage them from a life of crime or lock them up if that is their choice.

As for americans committing murder, yes, they too are scumbags, but the truth of the matter, Dane, is that the murders committed by illegal aliens wouldn't happen if they weren't here, and they wouldn't be here if our laws were enforced.
