I don't believe that is true. I think the race was actually closer because of the Duke case. Bishop was a weak candidate and his support was already eroded and was not going to get better. He (Bishop) was the only one to really benefit and he was the weakest candidate, not really a threat to win. Freda Black didn't jump on the "get those guys" band wagon. She took a counter position so she gained anti-Nifong votes.

If he didn't go after the Dukies, and instead promised to investigate it and do the very best he could, Bishop would have done better, Freda would have done worse and Nifong would have won anyway.

Nifong was the Democrat machine's choice from early on.

It's a damned mess, but I still believe it's best explained by political pressures and a large dose of poor judgment mixed with a batch of "in over my head."

I see your point but what I am referring to is not necessarily numbers driven. Because so many careers have been wrecked due to whites being on the wrong side of racial disputes, Nifong reacted out of fear of losing his job. The worst thing a Democrat can do is seem insensitive to race and gender, especially right before an election. I think if the media attention was there but the election was years off, Nifong would have reacted differently.

Freda, had almost no chance of beating him, no way. Freda had/has too many people lined up against her and too many skeletons in her closet. Nifong was the front runner before any of this happened.

You are totally wrong. Nifongs financial support had completely dried up by Feb. since all the "wise" people in Durham knew he couldnt beat Freda (who had prosecuted Michael Peterson and was very famous, as opposed to the dweeb recently appointed, former traffic court prosecutor Nifong).

In fact, the major reason he prosecuted this case at all was that he had lent his campaign 30 grand and would never get the money back if he lost. It was his only ticket out of obscurity and financial ruin; Scroll down to Follow the Money

You are correct. And now, the buttsmear has conveniently timed a press conference one day after the 60 minutes interview to let the AA community in Durham know that he finally made an arrest in a case he ignored and deprioritized for the Duke case. If anyone believe that is a coincidence, I have some Enron stock to sell ya.

Perhaps I'm wrong here. Everyone seems to think so, but no one has convinced me or shown me strong evidence that I'm in error. It's moot anyway since we all agree that Nifong is in the wrong and screwed up big time.

I would like to add that I don't know who the "wise" people in Durham are, but I work here in downtown Durham and my job puts me in close proximity to the legal and political workings around the Courts, and I know first-hand that Freda was not winning and was not going to win. Her candidacy only looks stronger in hindsight because the Duke case swung anti-Nifong votes her way.

If Nifong did do this to just to win and to save his money, then he is far worse than I believe.

One of the defense lawyers described this line up as a multiple choice test with no wrong answers.

Will they ever get just compensation for this false accusation? Will the false accuser and Nifong go to jail?
These players should get $10 million each from Nifong and should be given a full apology for this racist travesty of justice.

It has been reported that before March 13th, polls showed Freda ahead of Nifong.
That's all I know on the subject.

Freda was well known because she helped to prosecute Peterson.
I have seen it reported that polls showed her ahead.
I find that easy to believe.

No chance and no way? I wasn't born yesterday. She lost by 881 vote. No way with that narrow a loss? Give me a break. You are acting as if she lost by a landslide. Meanwhile Nifong got a lot of AA votes, and that's how he won.

Why did he has to use his own money in his own campaign if he was doing oh so great? Maybe you can answer that question?
If other candidates had no way to beat him, why would he use thousands of his own money to fund his campaign, if he was doing so great and they had no chance?

These three guys should not only later sue the stripper and Nifong for false prosecution and slander, but should write a book and do a movie about the hooker and DA that tried to frame them.

These guys are IMO the victims of a DA in need of reelection and a black hooker playing the race card.

What was absent is the hooker had made similar allegations in her past that were also false against three other men.

A while back Greta wondered if Nifong is mentally ill or just evil.

He was a white guy trying to get the black vote for reelection.
If he did not prosecute, all the blacks would say he was protecting the white kids.
If he prosecuted, he gets reelected.

Despite the evidence being obviously false against these men, Nifong IMO accepted ruining these kids lives in exchange for retaining his power.

We see this out of Democrats all the time.
Look at how many make sound bites for terrorists and are willing to sabotage the war on terror and make military body bags as long as they get power.

They are evil at this point IMO.

You right, but I think there's something else going on here. He was especially vicious when he spoke of these "boys of privilege" or some such phrase. Dollars to donuts he grew up in modest means and was dissed in HS by the local well-to-do athletes. Just my opinion.

No way. Freda was probably going to beat the Fong. He was trailing her in the polls. He just eeked out a victory even WITH this case. Had it not been for Bishop, she might have beat him anyway.
