Aide says White House mocked evangelicals
The Guardian ^ | October 14, 2006 | Julian Borger

Posted on 10/15/2006 7:25:44 PM PDT by rakovsky

A former senior presidential aide has accused the Bush administration of using evangelical Christians to win votes but then privately ridiculing them once in office. The allegations by David Kuo, the former deputy director of the White House office of faith-based initiatives, come at a devastating time, when the administration is counting on born-again Christians to vote in sufficient numbers to save the Republicans' hold on Congress in the November elections.

In a book entitled Tempting Faith: an Inside Story of Political Seduction, to be published on Monday, Mr Kuo portrays the Bush White House's commitment to evangelical causes as little more than a cynical facade designed to win votes.

"National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as ridiculous, out of control, and just plain goofy," Mr Kuo wrote, according to MSNBC television, which obtained an early copy of the book. In particular, he quotes Karl Rove, the president's long-serving political adviser and mentor, as describing evangelical Christians as "nuts".

What is your opinion of Karl Rove?

Do you believe David Kuo, former deputy director of the White House office of faith-based initiatives, that Karl Rove called Evangelicals "nuts" and failed to support their initiatives?

I don't see why he would make it up, but maybe you have other ideas?

The Republican Party treats the Evangelicals like the Democratic Party treats Blacks.

Book sales will skyrocket with every such revelation, so yes, there is a great reason why he'd make up such a thing. But what of it? Let's say it's true - I have yet to meet a large group of any type of organization wherein some of the members can't be described as being 'nuts.' There's always a few wackos in every group.

I have no reason to believe this report at this particular point in time close to an election. So I outright dismiss it.

What is "our" opinion of Karl Rove?

He is a brilliant man that is making fools out of the fools at du and the demonrat party.

Never heard of David Kuo, sounds like he is just out to sell his book. Most likely just a nut job that went over to the dark side.

BS! Bush has opened up monies for faith based organizations and is appointing conservatives to the Supreme Court. That is called backing up the talk with results.

That book is nothing more than someone looking for the easy $$$ bucks!

If Bush and Rove were truly sincere, they would be talking in tongues and handlin' snakes.

I seriously doubt the President would do this or keep company with those that do.
