LOS ANGELES - As a 1960s-era underground musician, Phil Pearlman Gadahn had a cult following. Now his funky homemade recordings are hot commodities again - thanks in no small part to his son's notoriety as an Al Qaeda mouthpiece.
Adam Yahiye Gadahn, a 28-year-old convert to Islam who now calls himself Azzam al-Amriki, or "Azzam the American," was indicted last week on charges of treason and providing material support to terrorists. He could be sentenced to death if convicted of treason.
While the FBI seeks Adam Gadahn, European music buffs are hawking bootleg copies of his dad's 1967 psychedelic album, "Beat of the Earth," on the Internet.
Phil Pearlman Gadahn, now in his late 50s, lives far from the spotlight in rural Riverside County, Calif. Neither he nor his wife, Jennifer, could be reached for comment. "The family is not doing any interviews," said his sister, Nancy Pearlman.
When the Daily News called Pearlman's home, a man who refused to identify himself ranted that the number was unpublished and warned, "Don't ever call this number again!"

Private Eddie Slovik was executed for desertation during WWII. But I don't believe there was a charge of treason.

The classic penalty for treason is hanging. Previously it was drawing-and-quartering. Which was the inspiration for our constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

Help me a little regarding the terms, "Islamo-Fascist" vs. "Islamic-Militant".
Which of the two would we consider Adam Gadahn (besides being a traitor)?
Can a "militant" merely talk-tough?

I think it was Gary Gilmore, who was executed by firing squad In Utah, according to Mormon tradition, which requires one's own blood to be spilled to atone for the sin of murder.

I'm thinking more like beat him to death with Jane Fonda. How do you do that? Grab Jane by the ankles and swing? Picturing that's just making me LMAO!
Sorry. Been at work since 9 last night...feeling kinds punchy and that just struck me the right (or maybe the wrong) way. :-)

Which was the inspiration for our constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment.Well, that too.
I was just pointing out that classically treason has been really frowned on. ;-)

Would be interesting if anyone from Gadahn's neck of the woods could research the family and see if they were registered Democrat's. Perhaps even Party hacks ala John Wayne Gacey.

A year later, Adam Gadahn, who had moved in with his grandparents, ditched his self-described obsession with "demonic heavy metal music" and converted to Islam. You know - now I see a connection...
Yeah, squares sometimes go nuts and decide to convert to Islam.

and then there was that guy who was put to death in one of the western states back in the 1970s I think... I think it was Gary Gilmore, who was executed by firing squad. Utah offered a choice of hanging or shooting, if I remember correctly. Some reporter asked Gilmore why he wouldn't prefer to be hanged or electrocuted. He answered that folks "might not hang me right" or botch the electrocution, but that he knew first hand that shooting was hard to screw up.

If I understand correctly, the firing squad hasn't been used since, oh, Benedict Arnold, is that about right? I believe that an American soldier was shot for desertion in WWII, and then there was that guy who was put to death in one of the western states back in the 1970s I think... I think it was Gary Gilmore, who was executed by firing squad.
1. Don't forget: that A-hole Benedict Arnold got away with his treason. He died in England in 1801.
According to Wikipedia (so Lord knows how true it is): "It is said that Arnold asked an officer he had taken captive about what the Americans would do if they captured Arnold, and the Captain is said to have replied "Cut off your right leg, bury it with full military honors, and then hang the rest of you on a gibbet."
2. The World War II soldier who got the firing squad was Eddie Slovik. I remember this because of the movie "The Execution of Private Slovik", with über-lib Martin Sheen playing Slovik sympathetically.

"ditched his self-described obsession with "demonic heavy metal music" and converted to Islam"
They raised him to be a psychopath, and he just decided to find a "real" religion of psychopathology rather than his parents' stew of incoherent lunacy.
Like the "American Taliban" guy, Johnny Jihad, this guy is a traitor to not only his nation but to humanity. However, this guy has evidently gone far beyond Johnny Jihad in his activities and definitely needs to be turned into jihad-dust by a JDAM before he can hurt any more innocent people.

Unlikely. Extremely unlikely. For Islamics and Islamists the brotherhood of believers is a sacred thing and Racism is one thing you can not accuse them of. To Al-Qaeda this dumbass is a valued comrade-in-arms.
The Islamist logic is perverse and twisted, but it has certain self-consistency...
