"It looks as if Harry Reid's whealing and dealing will be ignored...what else is new?"

They are ignoring his land deals (I don't know why the Pubbies don't say they want an Ethics Committee hearing on it).

It's also interesting that we haven't heard much about Reid and Abramoff in a while, however, Curt Weldon is *conveniently* being investigated now "2 people familiar with the investigation say"

Tribes gave to Reid after hiring Abramoff
Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | February 3, 2006 | Tony Batt Stephens

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada began receiving campaign contributions from at least four American Indian tribes only after they hired Jack Abramoff, Republicans charged this week in an effort to tie the Senate Democratic leader to the disgraced lobbyist.

On Thursday, Reid shrugged off questions about money he received from tribal clients of Abramoff, who pleaded guilty last month to three felonies after being accused of exchanging meals, travel and gifts for political favors.

"I've said that I received money from Indians in the past and will continue to do so," Reid said.

Asked what he would say about tribes who did not give him money until after hiring Abramoff, Reid said, "What I've said all along."

The National Republican Senatorial Committee this week revived a charge that Reid received more than $50,000 from four tribes with gaming interests between 2001 and 2004 after they hired Abramoff. The Nevadan had received no money from those tribes before then, Republicans said.

The donations included:

• $19,500 from the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians of California.

• $5,000 from the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana.

• $7,000 from the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

• $19,000 from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan.

"Harry Reid's ties to Jack Abramoff are too substantial for him to dismiss with Washington, D.C., denial and hypocritical accusations," Republican spokesman Tucker Bounds said.

Reid has acknowledged receiving $61,000 from tribal clients and lobbying colleagues of Abramoff. He has said the money was legally raised, that he has done nothing improper and does not plan to refund the donations.

An analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics, a campaign watchdog group, shows that Indian gaming tribes as a general proposition increased their political donations substantially since the late 1990s, spreading money wider and deeper among members of Congress.

In the 1998 election cycle, tribes donated $1.5 million. In the 2004 cycle donations had increased to $7.2 million, the center found.

Gaming tribes "didn't break $2 million until 2000, and then it started going up," said center spokesman Massie Ritsch. "How much was due to Abramoff's influence, I don't know, He did not represent all the tribes."

Weldon faces probe on daughter's deals
AP ^ | Oct. 15, 2006 | KIMBERLY HEFLING and LARA JAKES JORDAN

Posted on 10/15/2006 5:21:16 AM PDT by Alissa

The FBI is investigating whether Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa., used his influence to secure lobbying and consulting contracts for his daughter, two people familiar with the inquiry said Saturday.

The inquiry focuses on lobbying contracts worth $1 million that Weldon's daughter, Karen Weldon, obtained from foreign clients and whether they were assisted by the congressman, they said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the confidentiality of the criminal investigation.

Weldon, a 10-term Republican from the Philadelphia suburbs, long has denied any wrongdoing, and his top aide said Saturday no one had notified him of an investigation.

"I think if there was an investigation, somebody would have contacted us," said Russ Caso, Weldon's chief of staff.

Caso said Weldon and his staff were "100 percent caught off guard" when they learned of the investigation, first reported late Friday by McClatchy Newspapers. This account cited two individuals with specific knowledge of the existence of the investigation; they declined to be identified because of the confidentiality of criminal investigations.

Caso, whose boss is in a tight race for re-election on Nov. 7 against Democrat Joe Sestak, tried to cast doubt on reports of the investigation. "Unidentified sources mean nothing," Caso said. "There's no substance in that story. It's a flimsy story."

I am trying to remember what I heard on the radio the other day. The station with Rush also carries ABC news, and they featured a story reported by Brian Ross, and I swear to you I thought "here's another bogus scandal story."

Unfortunately, I was picking up my grandkids and got busy and now I have forgotten.

Carter gave a speech the other day, in support of his son running in Nevada, and one line in his speech was a little boy walked up to him and said "I want to be like you when I grow up", got chuckles from the crowd. Even I chuckled.

The internal polls may show Ford losing - that is why they are saying if he does, then it is 'racism'.

How would the dems like to have this compared to the activity of his sons and son-in-law?

I do wish the republicans were start airing commericals about this

Ah Laverne...

The pubs do NOT have a clue. Lessee, we had Blow Hard Kerry on blaming Bush for Korea but where are the pubbies casting nonsense on that concept?

Sure, Condi was on and she talked common sense. Even when Wallace threw that other major lie the Lamestream has managed to mold into a mantra..."Iraq had NO weapons of mass destruction."

But Condi is the Secretary of State and she has to be diplomatic. We need some pubbies with gonads (an oxymoron) to be around and shouting, vehemently, how the Clinton admin sent Carter over there and how Carter gave away the family store.

The pubbies need to say it over and over and over again, follow the pattern of the Dems. Perhaps Newt, somebody who knows a thing and somebody who can say it firmly and eloquently.

The pubbies don't know how to wage a PR war and while we all might sit back and smile at how "virtuous" they are and how "above the fray" they are....IT COMES AT A GREAT COST.

You lose elections that way. Lost elections are not the way to continue the move towards American values.

Once again, I nominate my own fine self for Republican spokesmen.

As an aside, next week I am joining the Sussex county Republican women group. Gotta start small, way I figger. I intend to work and claw my way into whatever position of change/effect that I can get to here in the wilds of Delaware.

The big race here is, oddly enough, the Attorney General race. We have...drumroll...Beau Biden-son of Joe, versus Ferris Wharton-prosector for murderer Tom Capano.

If Beau wins this thing we will have ANOTHER Biden to cause us grief forever and ever amen.

So far America's Most Wanted John Walsh has come out in favor of ole Beau and I shall never watch that show again.

Hey guys, I'm doing my best here in Delaware because Beau, heh, he's only prosecuted THREE cases in his young, snotty life and he lost all three of them. While other assistant DA's were handling 150-200 cases, Beau the senator's son was lightly-load with only 50 cases and then he needed help on them.

Beau failed his law test THREE times. But hey, Beau promises to start a "child predator unit", essentially slapping a name on a door in a police department somewhere while doing the same old, same old. But it sounds good to the dead voters in Wilmington.

This Beau wins this race folks, and it'll be Hairplugs all over agaiin.

That's the same story that Harry Reid told about a little boy named DAnny down in Searchlight, Nev....told Harry (allegedly) that he wanted to grow up and be just like Senator Reid.
