WASHINGTON - The Justice Department is investigating whether Republican Rep. Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania traded his political influence for lucrative lobbying and consulting contracts for his daughter, according to sources with direct knowledge of the inquiry.
The FBI, which opened an investigation in recent months, has formally referred the matter to the department's Public Integrity Section for additional scrutiny. At issue are Weldon's efforts between 2002 and 2004 to aid two Russian companies and two Serbian brothers with ties to strongman Slobodan Milosevic, a federal law enforcement official said.
The Russian companies and a Serbian foundation run by the brothers' family each hired a firm co-owned by Weldon's daughter, Karen, for fees totaling nearly $1 million a year, public records show.
Karen Weldon was 28 and lacked consulting experience when she and Charles Sexton, a Weldon ally and longtime Republican leader in Delaware County, Pa., created the firm of Solutions North America Inc. in 2002. Both are registered with the Justice Department as representatives of foreign clients.
Word of the inquiry, which has been closely held within the Justice Department and the FBI, comes from two individuals with specific knowledge of the existence of the investigation. They both declined to be identified because of the confidentiality of criminal investigations.

It even admits further down in the article that their is no evidence that this FBI and Justice Dept investigation is even going ON!!!!
But, in the mean time...Jefferson, Mollohan, Murtha, are ALL getting major names backing their re-elections!!!

But, ocean...you and I could have predicted this, right?? When Weldon wouldn't "shut up" about Able Danger, like they want him to...they had to send some goons to fabricate an ongoing investigation according to "anonymous sources", of course.

You just have to be patient. President Bush has a whole lot on his plate, including the election and the war. It's really easy for us to think "well why doesn't he just do something?" but getting stuff done in government is not quick nor is it easy, unless you are a monarch or a dictator.
this is very bad. it doesn't sound like the makeup of his district is such that he can survive this - there are alot of powerful forces against him.

Curt Weldon is no longer my congress person. I have conservative Joe Pitts representing me. Pitts isn't linked to greasy nepotism and slimey Delaware County crapola. Weldon was in trouble long before his children reached lobbyist age and we heard of Clinton. He forgot his roots. Able Danger cannot save his bum.
There has been so much corruption in DeeCee for so many decades, relatively unchallenged corruption, that I am glad, no matter who gets exposed, that any of it is coming out.
My best hope, however, is that the democrats who have been cheating the taxpayers, pilfering, lying, doing nefarious deeds, will be exposed in the final three weeks before November 7, when there's not enough time for the voters to fall asleep again.

Is it possible that we only know what some of the documents that Berger took were? In other words, we know the notes for the after action reports are missing. Do we know those were the only documents? Could there be more documents missing?

The Justice Dept. should pursue and prosecute everyone of these criminal elitist a$$hole if the feel they have a case.

As far as punishing Berger, you are correct that it doesn't matter, but identifying the missing documents may tell we, the citizenry more about what is and was going on in Washington. Especially since the documents seemed to be related to 9/11/01. If it is possible to get information on what all documents are now missing, it will begin to paint a picture that will still explain a lot.
It would be nice to see the Pubbies fight back tooth and nail, but I just do not think the Pubbies have the 'nads to do it.
