demand, huh?

Let's see. We have 50,000 troops there defending them.

Why shouldn't they demand we provide REAL protection?

If we're not going to protect them we should get the hell out and let the communists take over.

I have loads of toys like my Harley. A plane and a boat and I use them each very conservatively. I am a republican.
Or like some I can live in fear and in a bubble and have a shallow no fun life.

The "digging for decades" is obvious.
The bunker part is based on what some other folks have built (including Saddam).

As far as I'm concerned I think they've done their penance. For the second half of the 20th century they been a model citizen in the community of nations. There is no rioting, no "death to the foreigner" chants, and no hyperbolic responses to the poking and prodding that the Chinese have given them.

We call the Russians and ally and they are far less trustworthy than the Japanese.

We don't need them to be like us, we only need them to be civilized. The Japanese can be counted on that much because they understand the consequences of their actions, and they have plenty to lose.

hear this all the time and I don't believe it. We can do "Shock and Awe II" the length of the DMZ and shove all those "missiles" and arty back up Kimmy's butt before he gets off the second salvo.

-------------------------------------------

You should believe it. Any GI on the peninsula can tell you the same, it's part of the 'welcome to USFK' talk.

The commies have had nearly sixty years to harden these sites. The mountains there are as hard as the granite upon which Manhattan is built.

I suggest you take a look at S.L.A. Marshall's seminal book, Pork Chop Hill (the basis for the film). One of the little gems in there is the description of the network of tunnels and caves already in place and virtually untouchable by 1953.

Conventional wisdom is that the first three to seven days would be all NK. It would take that long for the tide to turn. The civilian loss of life in that first week would be staggering by any standard, especially once the bridges across the Han were taken out, leaving 5,000,000 plus (including the US installation at Yonson) trapped in the north side of Seoul.

My post might have sounded confrontational. I didn't mean it to be so. I wanted to point out to everyone on this thread that SK doesn't possess a nuclear arsenal because we would not have continued our presence there if the had. They rely on our quiver.
