AP Exclusive: Reid got $1M in land sale

WASHINGTON - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn't personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews.

The Nevada Democrat's deal was engineered by Jay Brown, a longtime friend and former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations. He's never been charged with wrongdoing — except for a 1981 federal securities complaint that was settled out of court.

From the Article:

"In 2001, Reid sold the land for the same price to a limited liability corporation created by Brown. The senator didn't disclose the sale on his annual public ethics report or tell Congress he had any stake in Brown's company. He continued to report to Congress that he personally owned the land."

The last sentence seems to indicate that Reid may have falsified official government documents. Isn't this a crime under 18USC?

"What are you smoking? Reid is not in trouble because he is a democrat. Democrats aren't held to standards or laws. He will not be resigning. He will have to be hauled away kicking and screaming."

No, he is in big trouble because unless he is asked to resign by Democrat congresscritters, it will appear like the RATS are immune from attack.

Of course this will drive voters to vote Republican.

"Culture of Corruption" is right. Come on, Harry: isn't it time for Democrats to head in a new direction, away from the failed policies of the past? I mean, openly soliciting bribes and manipulating real estate transactions to avoid taxes makes you look so...incompetent. Besides, your strategy just isn't working - it's only making things worse, while diverting attention from the real problem - that you're not ever going to be Majority Leader.

Not when there is a chance of losing Congress to these thugs

I think the Congressmen and Senate have already decided that we are losing our majorities in both houses. The real battle now is to save your own seat first, then blame conservatives for moving the party too far to the right, then blame the conservatives grassroots for not doing enough, then kiss up to the Dems. I don't think the spineless bunch have ever been comfortable being in the majority and controlling the agenda. I tihnk they've decided that it's much easier to stir the pot with the folks back home, then try to get their cut by being nice to the Dems.

Isn't that a violation of law, even for a democrat?
