AP Exclusive: Reid got $1M in land sale
AP ^ | Oct 11, 2006 | By JOHN SOLOMON and KATHLEEN HENNESSEY, Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn't personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews.

The Nevada Democrat's deal was engineered by Jay Brown, a longtime friend and former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations. He's never been charged with wrongdoing — except for a 1981 federal securities complaint that was settled out of court.

Too bad it has not been mentioned.

This is just another reason why I get my news from here rather than the MSM.

AP did a great job of laying out the facts and making it clear that this land deal was not kosher. Harry Reid should be tossed out of the leadership, he should be formally investigated by a special counsel and if he is found guilty of wrong-doing, he should go to jail.

Don't let this story die because the MSM don't want to cover it. Slimy bastards! Complete double standard for treatment of Dems vs. Repubs.

Sure doesn't look like he is in much trouble, this is being kept pretty quiet by the MSM. amazingly enough it looks like he has been pretty busy on the real estate scene for years if one just googles harry reid + land.

Fox mentioned it, ABC radio mentioned it, MSNBC mentioned it and the Washington Times mentioned it. dim scandals take time, Republican scandals take minutes.

If the DBM ever reports this story, I guarantee their focus will be "Who leaked the land deeds to the AP?"

Good! I hope it gets mentioned a lot more.

Maybe the GOP can do a press release today showing the senate is directing the ethics committee to look into this.

Frist and others should demand his resignation. They will not until consensus in the media is reached. That may be weeks away.

I know thats not what happened but what is the difference in Reid donating the land to the company vs. someone else donating money to the company in Reids name? Either way he can clean up.

The "donation" by Reid of the land is not a "donation" like a gift. It is a common way that Partnerships obtain their assets. One party "donates" land, another donates expertise and/or financing, maybe another partner donates equipment, and they work out an agreement on how they will share the partnership profits and losses.

Had someone donated money in Reid's name to the partnership, that would be income to Reid, and it would have needed to be reported as such. There would also have to be a legitimate reason for someone to be giving Reid such a gift. For Reid to be donating capital (the land) to a partnership in which he is going to be a 75 percent shareholder is not unusual. You people are hung up on the term "donation", which in this context does not mean a gift. It refers to the capital contribution by a partner to the partnership.

For an "AP Exclusive" this story is sure getting meager coverage in the MSM. IT is totaly invisible on every major website.

Nixon was never impeached.

Actually, he was. About 2 weeks after Nixon resigned, Peter Rodino of N.J. (who we all remember in this saga) introduced Bills of Impeachment on the House floor, saying to do such was important for the record.

It passed, but I don't remember the vote count.

The MSM is already running away from this story while trying to resurrect the Foley "scandal".

Neither Reid or Rod Bla in Ill. will ever , ever be indicted, covered by the MSM on their shady dealings. Never. So any angst that we have on this will not play nationally. Look Robert Men in Jersey is also a crook but he will get elected. Dems do not go the way of Duke Cunning and my guess is that the Dems will blame the Justice Dept of bias if it actually looks into any of these scandals.
