Reports of riots heavily exaggerated
Riots and demolition. Smashed windows and devastated shopping centers. It turned out to be nothing less than hype.
How could it happen?
Malin Sahlström, secretary of press with the Västra Götaland Police Authority gives an explanation to the whole thing.
- No official spokesperson was on duty. He left at 18.00 and afterwards, emergency call centre operators themselves took care of external relations like contact with the media and they’re not qualified for this responsibility. We’re supposed to be open towards the media, but according to what I’ve heard, the operators yesterday recieved equal numbers of calls from the press and from the public. She says the operators received several different calls coming from scared citizens who were all witnessing the same thing, namely violent youth gangs smashning up a tram in the protection of dark, smashing windows and throwing stones at the police.
Malin Sahlström says a lot of people probably were reporting about the same acts of crime taking place. - The media demands answers to their questions. “Give us something” they say - and the operators probably were reporting in accordance with incoming emergency calls, Sahlström explains, while claiming that the only alternative is to more or less completely refrain from handing out any information at all. - When you‘re not accustomed, it sometimes can be difficult to know what to say and not. An official spokesperson would presumably have said as little as possible already from the start, according to Malin Sahlström.
GP: So what will happen next?
- Right now, we will try and get down to business with the criminal occurrences themselves, what alarms we’ve received and how to deal with information onwards. We really do want these phone operators to be open towards media. But the best thing would be an official spokesman in on duty on a 24-7 basis. If that was the case, this thing would never have happened., says Malin Sahlström. So far, no one is in custody for the crimes committed.

- Concerning news like these, the police is one of our sources. We expect the police to have the best general view of the situation. But in this particular case, we also had a reporter of our own and one of our photographers stationed at the crime scene. They reported what they saw with their very own eyes, but failed upon obtaining a complete understanding of the situation as a whole because we were closing in on our deadline and time was pressing on us.
What could GP learn from this? - The importance of following our news stories up and informing about what actually took place in reality - and correcting mistakes. Furthermore being more careful with source material.

Ironically, I went to an apple fest at an orchard about an hour south of where I live in upstate NY last weekend. I felt like I'd entered a foreign country. Suddenly, for the first time in my life, I saw more foreigners and heard more languages in one place than I'd ever seen or heard. So much for apple pie and America.
Yes, the conduct of criminal muslims is inferior to the one of most native europeans and the majority of americans.
However - seriously speaking - no human being is born inferior to any other one.
Followers of Islam should be respected on behalf of their belief as long as their behavior displays a will to promote human progress.
Brainwashed taliban soldiers have nothing of value to offer mankind. Turkish businessmen and malaysian engineers and that sort of "muslims" on the other hand might have and out of principle we must never forget upon that part of reality while whishing to defend true civilization.

For better or for worse, this is exactly what is happening all over the Globe.
If I go to the most "swedish" places in Sweden, Places where I experienced the essence of swedish summers as a child in the 1970's and early 1980's (I was born in 1969), I'm bound to hear people speaking german, italian and english.
In one way, I'm all pleased with sharing what I feel is the most wonderful aspects of Sweden with foreigners, but where did the land of the vikings, Pippi Longstocking and my grandmothers home made meatballs go?
Is Finland a part of Scandinavia? (Basically, is Scandinavia determined by geography or culture)?
I'd have to admit I'm not feeling as gracious as you. At one time I did, but when you can't go to a darned apple orchard...
Ok. I also have to admit I was pretty turned off because the Democrat who is running against our Congressman set up a tent there. I've never had to mix politics and apples before either.
When I went to Norway in 1982 with my mom, I was amazed at the number of "Pakis" there. My cousins hated them but admitted they did like the one who ran a store. Dear Norway, get rid of them as fast as you can!
Where do you live? I know that applefest, in Fayette perhaps? We've driven by there and wow, you go about four miles an hour to get through. It's amazing how many people go there. Mxxx OR was it the Beak and Skiff applefest? It's great apple country.
Strictly speaking, "Scandinavia" is comprised of Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. The "Nordic" states would be those three plus Finland and Iceland.
Finland, especially western Finland, historically has been heavily influenced by Sweden, many ethnic Swedes live there, and Swedish is spoken widely--again, especially in western Finland.
Ethnically and linguistically, the Finnish people and language are quite distinct from the Scandinavian peoples and languages.
The only problem with that is that Islam itself is backward and totalitarian. There is a big difference between human beings and a belief system...unless that belief system promotes irrational violence (OR the removal of individual freedom) and indoctrinates to promote its objectives.
Eastern upstate NY. We went south to visit Gould's Farm near where one of my twin daughters lives.
