Police said a 14-year-old boy was defending himself and his mother when he shot and killed an intruder Monday afternoon at their home on Ocean Drive.
Capt. John Houston said the 14-year-old boy, whose name was not released, was home from school after becoming ill, and his 46-year-old mother, Rose Ann Kozlowski, had just returned from the grocery store when she was confronted by a man with a knife. ... After the robber caught the woman trying to untie herself once, she was able to free herself and her son and find her husband's pistol in a security box under the bed. She tried to shut double doors to the bedroom as the man tried to push them open and her son held the gun.
"She was using all her strength to push them," Houston said, adding that the boy aimed at the man through a space in the door and fired one shot.
"He shot once and hit him in the head, killing him instantly," Houston said. "He took a life-saving measure to save his mother and himself."

Jungle 0, civilization (what the gun was intended to protect) 1. This is good to defray some of the bad karma involved with those girls killed in Pakistan.
Anywhere but Texas, the headline for this story would be "Man Killed In Home Invasion".
This young gentleman deserves a FR scholarship.
I was trained in the Military with a .45. I entered a police simulator at a trade show once and used a laser pistol to take their fire or not test. The instructor told me "the good news is everyone you shot at you killed". "The bad news, you shot everyone". That's why I'm not a cop.

This life lesson is much more important than what he would have learned from the NEA at school that day! Gun control advocates would much rather have the story end with the intruder taking the gun and killing them both. Thank god the my state takes the second amendment seriously.
In a related story, the ACLU is taking up the case against the son for infringing on the dead man's rights to rape and pilage the community.
I wonder if he has done this before? If so, maybe the police can mark finished on some unsolved crimes.
Perps family will probably sue, If it were N.Y. or Mass. the perps family would win, and the kid would go to jail as would the mom and dad for having a weapon to protect themselves.
It's Texas, and the kid is a hero.
Thank heaven someone re-posted it or I would have missed it.
I do not sit here and watch every post come in nor do I dig back all that far, so for me, the re-post was a blessing.
These things happen more often than we know. In years past, most boys were skilled with firearms, and they loved their families too. Most of them would protect those they loved, even if it meant killing an attacker. And why shouldn't they?
In my youth, most men were away at war until I was about eight years old. Following the war, when those surviving relatives returned home, they found boys and some girls eager to learn from them. I was one of those boys.
We took great pride in learning about firearms, and on Sundays we were told not to kill. That balance worked, for the most part, and self defense was a right in our laws.
One Bullet One Kill.
The boy should be proud.
Just love happy endings.
god => God. I hate it when I do that.
I read the article. Any idea of the size of the gun?
Ping
*Sniff* Don't you just love a happy ending. *sniff*
Good boy. One less hung jury. Man of the year. Mom should be proud. Someone give this kid a full ride at a good college.
After getting the job done with one shot, I'd wager on him being a revolver shooter for life.
One problem. It will take some time to clean the floor:-))
