ITALY: CONTROVERSIAL ARAB SCHOOL OPENS

Milan, 10 Oct. (AKI) - Milan, Europe's capital of integration in 2007, is at the centre of a nationwide controversy over an Arab school detractors say will boost the segregation of the Arabic-speaking community in Italy's financial capital and supporters claim will champion integration. The elementary and middle high school, which will reportedly follow both the Italian and Egyptian curricula, opened on Monday though it had yet to gain the proper certification from both local and national authorities.

So as 130 students, mostly of Egyptian origin, started their lessons at the 'Naguib Mahfouz' school, education minister Giuseppe Fioroni protested on Tuesday that no institution could open in Italy without the proper authorisation, while centre-right majority parties in the local conservative government called for its immediate closure.

The problem, both detractors and supporters acknowledge, is that the whole issue has become a politically charged one - testing Italian attitutes to Muslim immigrants........

"though it had yet to gain the proper certification from both local and national authorities."

This is a deliberate "stealth" attempt to force the government to recognize Islam.

Italy makes no babies, having become EuroWeenie infertile. Italy is being repopulated by "illegal immigrants" muslims (and Albanians, Yugoslavians, and Africans) who do a lot of the grunt work. I got lost in muslim suburbs of Naples last summer, near Pompeii.

This is identical to the democrat party Blue States, which are as infertile as Europe and equally dependent on Mexicans and Central American neo-slaves.

The sad thing is that I love Italy, I love Italians and a few years ago, even discussed retiring there with my husband. It is a truly magical place.

But so few Euros (Italians included) and even many Americans, seem to not love their cultures enough to defend them. Xenophobia is one thing, but the opposite end is a a sort of self-loathing coma that seems more in keeping with many Euro and Lib attitudes and policies.

Our guide over there was an Englishman who had lived in Italy for the last ten years. His attitude about 9/11, Madrid and London -- "a few crazy Muslims, but most of them aren't like that! " And this was an intelligent man, educated man -- who was totally oblivious!

"The school's board needed to wait for the required authorization which we will grant or refuse within the next two months," a spokesman said. If it receives the required authorisation from the city's government, the school subsequently also needs approval from the regional education board and then from the education ministry - a lengthy procedure.

stupid bureaucrats, let them open a school, they're paying for it...
