Thanks to NewYorker77 for this post from 1-25-06. With all the pessimism concerning the polls for 2006 I thought it would be good to look at how wrong the polls have been in the past. We all remember what happened in election night 2002. Remember the pic of Carville with the trash can on his head or the depressed Tom Dashle pic? If the conservative base show up we win. period!

I certainly hope the pols are incorrect; but I think anyone who is not concerned about the state of the Republican party has their head in the sand.
I think the Republican leadership has done a very poor job positioning the Republicans for this election.

If the conservative base show up we win. period! Agreed. Except it's possible the base won't show. PO'd about the insanity on the border...the rampant globalism in the guest worker agenda being pushed....the lack of a decent plan for Iraq, the scandals (Not Foley, but maybe the coverup and the Abramhoff crappola) the lack of conservative direction on anything....the lack of a plan for the rest of the Axis of Evil. A lot of talk and then nothing. And we still haven't killed OBL. I'm not certain but what the 'Pubbies need a good spankin' I'll take two years of Pelosi in trade for a good GOP President. I have a feeling that after two years of detailing all the stuff the RATs try to pull in increased taxes and decreased preps for terror, the country may well exile them to Venezuela forever. And they'll never learn on gun control. If they come to power they can't help themselves. It's like a lemming reflex. They'll flood the House with gun bans and the people will see that for what it is....a power grab.

If push polling and reporting becomes an more vitriolic in being pro-democrat,
Reporting on Nov 7th will be like this, "LA LA LA LA LA LALALALA LA LA LA AAAAAA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA DEMOCRATS ARE GOING TO WIN LA LA LA LA DON'T CARE WHAT RESULTS ARE LA LA LA LA LA LA, and back to Katie Couric."

Those polls are all pretty accurate. They were taken before Wellstone died, skewing the numbers. The only one off is everyone thinking Strickland would beat Allard, which seemed likely at the time.

That list is worthless without numbers. Do you have the specific polling data?
