According to the Russian astronomer Nikolai Fedorovsky, a giant comet flying at top speed is bound for Earth. Should the comet stay on the collision course, it may hit the planet in late October. The impact will cause devastating tsunamis, earthquakes and avalanches, says Fedorovsky. He saw the killer comet in a telescope two weeks ago. He managed to calculate the comets trajectory. We got in touch with Nikolai Fedorovsky:
Im not trying to scare anybody, I just want to warn the public, sums up Fedorovsky. We should pay attention to this suspicious celestial body. We could obtain more accurate calculations if other astronomers join forces. We could also photograph it if were in luck. We will probably partake in one of the greatest events in the history of humankind,

This is probably just Marshall Applewhite and his "home team" crew coming back to pick up Nancy Pelosi and the Daily Kos crowd.

Whatever it takes to stop the dims from gaining control of the house, if it means we collide with comet causing cataclysmic destruction then so be it! The Dems would be routed because they all voted against missile defense funding.

Im not trying to scare anybody, I just want to warn the public, sums up Fedorovsky. No, that's cool, dude. Mass panics are always more organized when we have a little "heads up," you know?
I can't stand a disorganized mass panic.
I need to stock up on beer for the "We're All Gonna Die in the Comet Crash" party. I guess I can use the same decorations I recently used for the August 22 "Ahmadinejad's Gonna Nuke Us All" party?

That was my subheading to the article title but it disappeared. This makes me think a moderator has more knowledge of this comet and the Rove plan then they let on.

All of this is fun and games. BUT..
IF a real comet or asteroid was on a trajectory toward Earth-- And we had say 6 months till impact--
WOuld the powers-that-be REALLY stand around and do NOTHING??
Many here probably know that ICBM'S are NOT the answer:: They cannot get away from the Earth's orbital boundaries. To use one or more to destroy a comet would mean detonation RIGHT ABOVE the Earth--and that would leave thousands of pieces or radioactive debris raining down on the planet-- NOT AN ANSWER!!
However-- IF such a threat did arise, could not a number of SLV's (space launch vehicles) such as the Titan IV be fitted with one or more nukes of 1MT or larger, and sent out a week or 2 in advance, to rendezvous with the asteroid, most likely in a "necklace blast" or possibly a "stand-off blast" (after all-- you do NOT need to destroy the object--just send it away from the Earth)??
Or would they just sit around arguing and pretending there was no problem--until it was visible to the naked eye, by which time it is too late??

As the old Russian saying goes, there is no truth in Pravda and no news in Izvestia.

No kidding. I found three triffids in my tomato plants this morning. Yup, I'd say that sounds just like Rove's MO.

The statement does sound pretty silly, but the speed of a comet does vary, and is at it's greatest during the comet's closest pass to the Sun, known as "perihelion." What this Russian is describing, though, sounds inbound to the inner solar system, from the Kuiper Belt (or the Oort Cloud), so he's incorrect about "top speed" anyway.

I heard that a message was inscribed in the dirty ice of the comet... "HERE I COME! READY OR NOT!!!
