Awful story. I didn´t quite follow all the politics, though. I assume it means that this unfortunate dentist was a non-lethal Muslim who was being punished by his co-religionists for the sin of simply wanting to live his life and do his job? Or is it more complicated than that?
And who the heck is the ¨naked mystic¨ and why does he have a following?

I'm truly sorry for the guy if this story is true. But the narrative of the story sounds like it was written by the same author of the Nigerian email scams that I receive from time to time.

Read a little about him a while back; apparently an eccentric Sufi mystic, to say the least, but virtually an infidel in the eyes of jihadis.

I do not understand this gruesome report. What was this person's alleged offense? The wickedness of man must now fill the nostrils of God. Can final judgement be far behind?
I was thinking straight razors maybe, and a miscue in translation. Regular blades, even single edge, would seem to be pretty hazardous to the murdering thugs too. Though they *aren't* that bright...
You know, I'm not a brave guy, but this is why I think I could summon the courage to fight to the death or run in these circumstances. Like one briefing I saw said, you're just going to become a star in their bloody spectacle when they kill you to make a political statement, so you may as well give it a shot on the front end.
The victim of the slaughter was a Muslim, too. He deserved it. /sarc

Hard to tell, but being an acquaintance of an opposition leader without going down the jihad track was enough to get him done in.
And, as an example to stay away from politics.
Or, perhaps pure jealousy, since, having returned from Saudi after what was probably a lucrative stint, he had a nice house.
