THE Dixie Chicks' biggest detractor, FreeRepublic.com founder Jim Robinson, declined to appear in their documentary, "Shut Up and Sing."

[ Snip]

Robinson's rep, Kristinn Taylor, confirmed he ducked the interview: "He told me to go ahead and do it."

I don't remember any threads by Jim either about the Chix.

And I didn't get a letter either calling for a boycott, but even if Jim had sent out such letters...so what, Natalie? LOL.

The difference is that the Dixie Chicks were stupid enough to alienate their own fan base and even the country and western music establishment. Mikey Moore and all the libbie actors and musicians have millions of libbie fans, so they can spout off all they like and still have a sizable audience.

I would rather go pick up dog poop than give the (what was that name again?) any additional publicity and exposure.

The readership of Free Republic is 20 times the ticket buyers for their last 10 (cancelled) 'concerts'...

Really...sounds like a classic set-up to me. Even if Jim had an actual debate with these nuts all they would do is cut and paste and take everything out of context. Jim's ideas already won the day! Game, Set, Match!

I have a great idea!
Let's invite "them" to FR for a live thread!
I'll let my dog take over the keyboard...

I declined the offer and told Kristinn that he could speak for FR regarding the Dixie Chicks if he wished. I'm sure he knows a million times more about the controversy than I do.

Thanks for clearing things up. Did Kristinn speak to them? Did he inform them that the mass mailing was not true? Will they do a retraction?

"It must really bother the Dixie Chicks that Sheryl Crowe, Bruce Springsteen, Roger Waters, Jennifer Anniston, Dave Matthews, Susan Sarandon, and Michael Moore (to name just a few) all vocally and vigorously criticize the president and it has not hurt their careers nor alienated their fan base one whit."

That's arguable.

Marriage-buster Crowe got her comeuppance in her dalliance with Armstrong, and she's lucky to be touring with the talented and relatively apolitical John Mayer.

The B-uttfl-oss only tours Blue states or Blue cities these days to like-minded mandarins; his sales are a fraction of his heyday.

Waters is flogging DSTM for the third time, without the rest of the band. I was offered a free ticket and declined.

Hollyweird has finally caught on that Aniston can't open a movie (soon to fall back on "Friends" reunion), and her personal life is a wreck.

Matthews got interminably (but karma-perfect) bad press for the Poop-On-Chicago Bus Tour. Every time he opens his mouth, all I hear is envy.

Sarandon -- name her last movie. You can't. And that was her entire stock in trade, such as it was.

Moore -- How many times has the release of "Sicko" been pushed back? He was reduced to begging on his e-mail list for "horror stories" to include. The Left has fully acknowledged he was not an asset of any kind in 2004, and with that admission, his days in the limelight are over.

I'm still waiting for my letter from JimRob telling me about the Evil Dxy Chx and how we have to go burn cow effigies in the parking lots of their concerts.

It must have been lost in the mail, along with my weekly orders from Rush instructing me what/how to think.

You are correct that these other "performers" with BDS are not doing that well- but their decline seems to be much quieter. There are no doubt other factors at work, like lack of talent or burnout.

The D Chix went down like the Hindenberg.

"Second, they've claimed that I sent out a mass mailing to 30,000 of our members encouraging them to boycott the Dixie Chicks. Well, that is simply untrue. I sent no such mass mailing to our membership. In fact, I've never sent out any kind of mass mailing to our membership or to anyone else. I simply do not do mass mailing. Never have."

You sent out a mass mailing? Why didn't I get mine???

I guess I gotta donate more to get on the list! LOL!

If they had praised the president and expressed allegiance to America and supported our men and women in uniform as they should have rather than dissing them, and possibly even performed at some patriotic events, I'm sure the Chicks would probably have been cheered on by the country and western fans and their careers would have flourished. As it is, they may be singing the blues (but no ones buying it), and I refuse to take credit for it. Give credit where credit is due. The Dixie Chicks committed political suicide.

B-I-N-G-O.

Even if they didn't praise the President, but showed support for America and the troops, you are correct in your assessment of their fans reaction and continuing career success.

Ping to Jim Robinson's post and thread.

CT, lots more Dixie Chix whining and moaning going on.

Strange it certainly is. I wonder where the number 30,000 came from, anyway? A supposedly large number somebody plucked from their imagination? Do they realize how small a fraction of FR that would have been?

The "frightening" power she ascribes to an Internet forum populated by people who mostly don't know or care who she is strikes me as the invention of a woman needing a reason other than her own behavior for the band's slide in popularity. You'll do nicely, I suppose. But the truth is that no organized boycott would have had the result that simple disgust at her remarks shown by her former fans did, once they became aware of it. If FR had any hand in this it was to help make them aware. Such free publicity would be the best thing any entertainer could hope for were that entertainer not occupied in repeatedly making herself unpalatable to the people who pay her electricity bills.

As I understand it she started off with anti-Bush remarks in a foreign country, which is not particularly remarkable, compounded the problem by insulting first her fellow artists and then her audience. I think I see what the problem is here and it isn't FR.

Are the Ditsy Chicks really this dense?? Talk about denial!!All this Free Republic bashing just confirms that the Chix are hurting and they are looking for scapegoats. What shallow twits!

They are typical whining liberals that refuse to take personal responsibility for their own actions. They couldn't blame Diebold, so they decided it had to be Jim Robinson and FR's fault. I'm just surprised that they didn't try to pin it on Karl Rove, but maybe they thought they had a better chance of getting Jim to appear in their crappy video.

kristinn,

Did you participate in this movie? Did you speak to them on behalf of FR?

Jim,
All you did was provide the setting where like-minded folks (and the ocassional troll) gather to share and discuss topics of common (and not-so-common) interest. The immense success of FR riles the Libs because they can not control what goes on here, and because they can not censor it.

The fact that it was FReepers who started the effort to put the Ditzy Twits in their place riles them and the DriveBy Media, just like they're angry that it was the FReeper Pajamahadeen who uncovered the Cee-BS Memogate fraud.

All you have to do to inflame the Libs is to be around and provide the forum, and you do it very well. I am proud to be a FReeper, and I am proud to count you and every other FReeper as a FRiend and as a partner-in-Libstomping.

God Bless!
