I would be very careful about taking these numbers as gospel.

Hell, I'm still pist at the Rosenburgs!!! If it hadden't been for those "Liberals" we probably wouldn't have any Atomic Commies to this day!!!
Liberals think the United States and her people should just give EVERYTHING AWAY and NEVER have anything kept secret for the good of all mankind!!!
I think that pretty obviously sucks as of today, don't you???

I still doubt it. I think it was leading up to this, perhaps as a deadline with Tehran, and he had to show something.
This is a fake, until there are some nuclear signatures. A nuke underground has to show something, unless they buried the bomb deep underground with no interest in research or supervision, just to blow it up. The bomb blew up near the surface - at least that latest seismogram says less than a kilo under, so their should be some venting or SOMETHING.

Agree it is quite small, but I think little Kim has sealed his fate. President Bush will take him out before he leaves office in January 2009.

If it was only 550 tons, then the test was almost a total fizzle. How so?
It seems to me, just thinking logically, that the purpose of the test is to make sure the system works. The triggering or firing mechanisms and such that create the explosion. Once they have that system correct, making the bomb larger should be easier then creating it in the first place.
Where is my logic flawed?

Don't jump in thinking that its fake... it takes lots of computing power and testing to get these things to explode efficiently... lets just be happy that it looks like they are taking a conservative approach to it and not jumping right in trying to crack the earth in 1/2..

550 tons is smaller than any primary I've ever heard of being tested. Yes it is a proof of concept but it a fairly worthless as a weapon. If they wanted to make a big statement it would have been much larger.
That said, I don't think it was 550 tons. I suspect around 4kt.

38% on CNN's poll think NK has a right to conduct nuke test. No surprise there. 100% of CNN management and staff probably think that Little Kim has a right to nuke the White House if Bush happened to be inside it.

With respect, could "550 tons" be a typo? That's about 1/20th the yield of the Hiroshima bomb.
To: COEXERJ145
Yes it is a proof of concept but it a fairly worthless as a weapon Then if they were testing the concept and it did explode, then the test was not a failure.
