If China didn't want Kim to do this, he wouldn't have, it's that simple. China and most likely Russia could put an end to Kim any time they feel like.

That they haven't and that Kim has done what he did today should tell us all something about Peking and Moscow.

Yes, Clinton and Carter etc are bums and nincompoops of the highest order. Horrendous on foreign policy. Democrats would dirarm us, in effect.

Maybe people will elect republicans because they trust republicans on national security. But maybe people will ask what the hell good is it if Bush's reaction is to talk talk talk.

I don't really oppose Bush's diplomatic efforts on any of this. I object to one thing - it doesn't appear there ever has been a credible military option designed to be utilized if events turn critical. It is the military action or threat of it that gets results. That's why Libya dropped their nuke program. Maybe they and others will reconsider now.

At this point, any finger pointing needs to be pointed at Clinton for giving them the technology to build these nukes.

"I think many Americans are shaking their heads and losing faith in the administration's willingness to act. Plainly the aggressiveness that existed after 9-11 has dissipated. And it was the aggressiveness that worked."

This American is shaking his head. All this blaming of Clintoon for NK's nukes, while we've held the seat of power in Washington for many years now and have done nothing but talk.

The bottom line is that China is ok with this and implicitly approves and we should plan accordingly.

I agree. China, and Russia, are waging 'proxy war' against us thru Iran, Iraq, NK. Their strategy, I believe, is to have these little guys wear us down, and hope for an opening.

Not so sure that Foley is off the headlines, Foley weakens Republicans, North Korean Nukes strengthens Republicans.

Maybe we could force the media to cover it if we got Foley out of rehab and had him send some naughty IMs to Kim Jong-Il? I know they can't resist more of that Foley naughty-typing.

It's brilliantly evil.

China doesn't want the possible negative consequences. A US attack leading to war and refugees into China. A nuclear armed Japan.

BUT if those consequences aren't real, China does not need to worry. My question is "What are we prepared to do?" Either this is "unacceptable" as everyone said, or now it is acceptable. All I keep hearing is "The UN, The UN, The UN." We have our own national interests, don't we?

Actually considering the technology was given to them by Clinton, we have tried to handle this internationally with six party talks. Yet the donks wanted us to do one on one talks with them, yet the donks claimed we went into Iraq unilaterally when we had a coalition of 30 plus countires. Yeah, I would not trust the donks to handle this. I am damn glad GW is at the helm right now.

Trying to filter out all the news babble and cyber brouhaha here to gain a sense of the situation. Seems to me that Kim has signed his own death warrant. The question is will the executioner be an internal party or external.

"At this point, any finger pointing needs to be pointed at Clinton for giving them the technology to build these nukes."

I don't know how much technology Clinton gave them, but I know how long we've held power in Washington and did nothing about N. Korea. We've had six years to formulate a strategy to deal with NK, and that's a long time to be in power and still blame the previous Administration for today's problems. Maybe the first couple of years it works, but not now, six years into power. N. Korea could have, (and should have), been dealt with by Bush years ago. He knew this was coming, he labeled them as part of "the axis of evil". But still we did nothing.

He didn't. Blame Pakistan, the Soviets, and the Chinese.

More recently, blame the South Koreans (the KDJ and RTW administrations) and the Chinese for harboring the viper. US hands have been tied (other than in case of a truly grave and imminent crisis) for nearly a decade.

Clinton didn't do what he could have when he had a chance to, given a cooperative South Korean government of the day, but thats water long under the bridge.

You are spot on but do not tell it to freeper "the crusader" whom sounds more like he wants to blame GW. Yeah that makes fricken sense! GW has worked six party talks doing the best they could but the donks wanted us to do one on one talks, so NK could blackmail us. Screw that. Thank god GW is at the helm and not a donk!

Reply to #60,

Let India in on Afghanistan (for this, you have to blow off Pakistan from your list of allies) and I think America'll have the numbers. Just make sure that India will assist Israel against Iran if Iran goes nuclear while the battle in the East is still on.

We even let them put the equivalent of tariffs on our exports, so that our goods are not inexpensive enough to compete with theirs.
