American Muslims Get Involved in U.S. Politics

Minnesota is home to thousands of Muslims from around the world. Like other immigrants, they have worked hard to establish themselves and support their families. But, since 9/11, the state's Muslims have become more concerned about presenting the real image of their faith and getting involved in their local communities.

"Until 1998, the Muslim community in Minnesota, the whole state, was about 5,000 to 6,000 people," he says. "But in 1998, there was an influx of Somali immigrants, about 70,000 of them. Then we had another 15,000 from Bosnia and Kosovo. They got political asylum." Ul Huq estimates the number of Muslims in Minnesota to be more than 150,000.

Like other American Muslims, the Minnesotan community felt victimized in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks on New York and Washington. Hydar Khan says federal authorities shut down several money-wiring services used by Muslim immigrants. He says Muslims have had to live with new challenges.

"There has been curtailment of our civil liberties since 9/11 in subtle ways, which I believe is a very concerning issue that eventually, I think, should be the concern of every American," he says. "There is not any overt discrimination that I've personally encountered, but there are reports here and there. Overall, I believe there is a tendency to malign the name of Islam, [by using] terms like 'Islamic Fascism,' and to always implicate Islam as an ideological evil. I think this is a very concerning issue."

It's not their home. This is our home.

They have a home. Wish they'd go the hell back.

more concerned about presenting the real image of their faith

If they are trying to present something positive...they are not working very hard.

When pediatrician Hyder Mohamed Khan immigrated from India 30 years ago, and settled in Minneapolis, he could hardly find a place to do his prayers. Today, he says, he has dozens of choices. "There are 25 to 30 places where Friday prayers are being offered in town," he says. "There are a dozen mosques in this community."

I really hate reading stuff like this. It feels like an invasion.

"...presenting the real image of their faith..."

I know exactly what that is, BTW. It hasn't changed in 1,000 years: murder and death for all Infidels.

I guess jumping to your death from a burning high rise building doesn't make one feel 'victimized'. I have temporarily lost the ability to express my views.

They are determined to use the freedoms and liberties they have here to destroy our freedoms and liberties.

Anybody else see anything wrong with this picture?

You should have put a "barf alert" on this one!

Why do we import Muslims? I am not sure if it is our arrogance in thinking that once Muslims experience our American culture, they will be converted to our way of thinking -- assimilated like every other culture that has come here. Or whether it is the disillusionment of Liberals which propels them into seeking out other cultures and ways of thinking, to avoid the complete boredom and emptiness that comes with atheism. Some measure of both, probably. Either way, it is suicidal. Muslims will not be assimilated and we will choke on them if their immigration here continues.

A really good read on the subject is "Defeating Jihad" by Serge Trifkovic. Frankly, I think that Trifkovic would make an outstanding Secretary of State.

Islam is first and foremost a political movement, a hostile one, and it should be treated as such. So long as we continue to treat it as simply another religion (and Heaven help us, a "Religion of Peace,") we are dangerously fooling ourselves. Muslims should be denied entry into the United States as agents of a hostile political force.

It is an invasion. Did you ever think that the holocausts reason for happening, is to make the rest of the world feel guilty enough to allow the forces of Satan to infiltrate and destroy Gods people from within? IMO the way to handle this invasion is to deport or put them in camps, until the terrorism threat is gone. No country can do this, because the cry from those that will see it as "nazi-like" would rise to the moon.

"the state's Muslims have become more concerned about presenting (lying about) the real image of their faith and getting involved (infiltrating) in their local communities.

the state's Muslims have become more concerned about presenting the real image of their faith and getting involved in their local communities.

The real image of their faith is built pixel by pixel by the demands of their holy book, which demands conversion, taxation or death for non-muslims without apology, without mercy without exception, period.

Any muslim that doesn't follow their holy scriptures is not a muslim. Others, who are muslim can simply point this out with scriptural authority, prescribing death to those who don't practice what koran scriptures preach.

There is no possible way to follow the demands of the koran and be an American.

The barbarians are at the gates and Americans who think the koran is like the Bible, never having read the koran, want to accept the muslims as brothers, and are led by our most trusted authority, the president of the United States.

I'm afraid that America is rapidly becoming the past tense, led there by "professional" politicians whose "careers" depend on votes.

Militant Mohammedans hate the Jews. Period. Hitler hated the Jews. Period. Militant Mohammedans hate the Christians. Hitler couldn't have had much love for the Christians. We have the same enemy as the Jews have, and you are correct when you say it is the dragon of Revelation, in my opinion; but I would hope you aren't casting the Jews as at fault. There are many Messianic Jews also.
