Attack of the Moonbats

Part I

Evaporating rain spattered the hot Tucson asphalt as I drove along pothole-riddled streets toward the public library on October 5, 2006. I had some books on reserve to pick up before heading out to the "World Can't Wait" (WCW) rally at the University of Arizona Main Mall at noon. It was one of two by WCW scheduled for that day; the other was at 4:30 pm in front of the Federal Building. It seemed a good strategy: get middle school, high school and college students fired up with radical speeches, then bring them downtown to hold signs in front of the Federal Building. If flawlessly executed, this method can be very effective.

WCW is good at strategic planning for a reason. They are not alone in their struggle to advance left wing causes like abortion, open borders, impeaching President Bush, accusing the US military of atrocities, and Communism. Founded by members of the radical organization "Revolutionary Communist Party" and believed by many to be their "front group" WCW has picked up support and funding from Hollywood celebrities, Democrats and other various supposedly mainstream liberal groups as well as the usual radical crowd of Code Pink and the like.

But how could WCW get middle and high school students to their rally on a school day? Their method, openly discussed on their own website, is to distribute flyers advocating students walk out of school. Some high school teachers even encourage school walkouts. Last year on local TV news, a student who walked out said her teacher told her to "go and be safe." I estimated about 200 people at that "moonbat" rally, with many young people. (Moonbat is a nickname conservatives sometimes use for radical left wing protesters.)

I emailed the University of Arizona President's office several days ago to ask if they had any comment on hosting a group that advocates minors walk out of school, and if any preparations were made in case of legal or insurance problems if a minor got hurt. I also asked if the U of A endorsed Communist directed anti-war rallies as a valid political learning experience for students, based on Professor R.J. Rummel's statement that Marxist regimes killed over a 100 million people while war killed 35 million. At the time of this posting I have received no reply. I saw few minors, however, far less than last year's fall WCW rally. Perhaps school officials are becoming more aware of the flyers. I saw at least 10 that were obviously young and one speaker on stage admitted she was 17. Perhaps she had a permission slip, however. It's certainly possible.

I arrived at the U of A at 11:45 am and found a metered parking space but I had no change. A student couple pooled their resources to change a dollar and two other students just gave me a few quarters. I arrived at the Main Mall shortly before the rally, passing the "Giffords for Congress" stand to get the front but off to the right of the stage. Besides "Say No to Communism" one side and "Don't Believe Left-Wing Propaganda and Lies" on the other I had one extra sign with "We Support The Troops and Their Mission" on one side and Remember 9/11 on the other. The Arizona Daily Wildcat estimated 100 people attended the rally.

I held up my "Say No To Communism" and began asking passersby if they would like some information on Communism, handing out copies of R.J. Rummel's "The killing machine that is Marxism." Many students thanked me for being there; I estimate about 50-60 did so by the time I left. A student walked by with two fingers extended (one for each hand). "Thanks for the intellectual argument!" I called out as nearby students broke out laughing. A leftist whom I had used the same reply on at last year's WCW rally when he cursed me out was walking up but stopped short upon hearing that exchange. "So you're here again, are you?" he sneered weakly. "Yes, I am," I replied.

"May I hold your other sign, sir?" a voice came from behind me. It was Blake Rebling, President of the Arizona College Republicans. Apparently courage is a requirement for joining such an organization, and exceptional courage a way to become president. Mr. Rebling stood fast against all sorts of verbal and physical attacks until he eventually had to go to class. No walking out on education for this young man! Two other students, conservative columnist Michael Huston and an intellectual conservative named Todd joined me as well, Todd staying till the end. A group of neutral students also stood near us to see what reaction the WCW crowd would have.

It was ugly, to put it mildly. At last year's rally in a downtown park one speaker actually thanked me for standing there with an opposing view, however, this time the mood seemed grim and depressing. About 6 older moonbats surrounded the three students and began shouting absurd questions, then interrupting the answers. One large liberal was looming over Rebling and shouting inches from his ear while the student was conversing with someone else.

"Sir, can you back off?" I asked him. "Why are you trying to threaten this student?"

"I'm just trying to debate!" he defended himself.

"No, you're physically intimidating this student by getting too close and shouting. Why don't you step away and wait your turn?" Instead of doing that, he continued to shout at Rebling, getting even closer. Looking around, I saw quite a few students were disgusted at the exchange and the general behavior of the left-wing radicals toward the peaceful counter-protesting students. As in last year's rally, liberal reaction to dissent spoke volumes for our side. Then a gray-haired, cursing red shirted man began intensely threatening the students.

"Sir, are you advocating violence at a peace rally?" I asked. This also worked before at last year's WCW rally to defuse a bloodthirsty peacenik, however, this time it had the opposite effect. An older blue-shirted man with a cowboy hat rushed at Blake Rebling and attempted to wrest his sign away. When Rebling held on to it, the enraged pacifist began shoving and batting at him furiously. I stepped between them.

"Violence at a peace rally, violence at a peace rally!" I boomed out over the crowd as the cowboy liberal threw my handouts and library book ("Saddam's Secrets" by Georges Sada) in the air and went after my sign, pushing, shoving and batting at me as well. The red-shirted man and some other aggressive "debaters" hesitantly moved forward, but my shouted words apparently stayed them as they perhaps realized they were being observed. They melted into the audience as the sign-hating liberal was dragged off me by helpful students and pulled away by a leftist. He wasn't going to quit.

A policeman came and asked if I would like to press charges. Spotting the attacker some distance away glaring at me, I said yes. Between talking with the officer, filling out the police statement and loud verbal attacks on the counter-protesting students (which continued throughout the rally) I missed parts of many speeches, but what I heard seemed like the usual propaganda. President Bush is like Hitler, our troops commit atrocities, we should have open borders, abortion should always be defended and American Christians are attempting to impose a Taliban type theocracy upon the USA. The usual thing. Surprisingly, after the Revolutionary Communist Party speech a few scattered boos arose among little applause. Perhaps my sign had some effect.

A polite couple visiting from Switzerland, Max and Ruth expressed dismay at the radical vernacular. Ruth said this type of propaganda was ruining Europe and causing intense anti-Americanism there. She also said Europeans were more receptive of it because they were jealous of American economic and military successes. Max wondered how anybody could believe the conspiracy theories, pointing at a man and woman with "9/11 was an inside job" sign. As those two walked by to leave I offered a report from the National Institute of Standards and Technology debunking their claims. They ignored me.

"But I have the proof right here!" I called out to the departing conspiracy theorists, holding out the report as surrounding students grinned. Many took "slipstreams" (a slip of paper with internet links to various articles and reports including that one.) After the rally, I walked back to my meter parked car. There were two minutes left. A bicycle policeman stopped by to make sure I got back to my vehicle without further attack. Although Tucson police officers comport themselves in an unbiased manner at political events, they are constantly reviled on left-wing internet protest sites. I sure appreciated them, however!

This is part one of a two-part column. Next week I'll tell the story of what happened at the second rally in front of the Federal Building, where moonbats were handed a big surprise. Some say that World Can't Wait is so outlandish there is no need to counter them. Others say it's too hard or they don't have the time. But our troops have the time to defend our freedom! They work so hard and sacrifice for us. We need to support them against denigrators, especially in time of war. Let's all stand up for our troops, and stand up for America!

Even though this is a two part column, of course the gist of the rest of the story will be posted now and next week I'll add the official second half to this thread.

1. Freepers attending the U of A Rally was \/\/ayne. Three students joined me. About 100 moonbats were there. At the afternoon rally FReepers were \/\/ayne, Dr Ed Bravo, Superman-Z, Lurker Pat and Protest Warrior Dennis. About 25 Pro-Americans were there holding the plaza front of the Federal Building including all around good guy Larry, Marine veteran Frank and his wife. About 80 moonbats opposed from their sidewalk area.

2. Here's some more about the U of A rally. A guy came up claiming WCW was not Communist. I showed a picture of last years WCW staff to the crowd around me, saying "Do these look like Communists? Wait a minute. Is that you in this picture?" (I think it was the guy with the glasses.)
"Yeah, I got a Communist T-shirt. That doesn't mean I am one!" he retorted as the crowd laughed. Although he refused to take "The killing machine that is Marxism" he continued to claim I knew nothing about Communism and even got up on stage at the end when they allowed people to speak. (I would have asked but my meter was running out.)

3. I sure had a lot of photographs taken of me but I forgot to ask them to email them to me. Oh, well. The comment section of the Arizona Daily Wildcat story has students confirming the Communist connection.

4. FAQ everyone wants to know: A. what happened with the attacker? He was cited and released.
B. I and the counterprotesting students were unhurt, however, my MP3 player / recorder was smashed and my papers got disarrayed in my travel bag. A small US flag fell partly out of my bag during the attack and was touching the ground, later when I noticed and put it back in a liberal sneered at me for "letting it touch the ground!".

5. Why bother to debate when all they do is ask irrelevant questions then interrupt and shout at you when you answer? Because the intelligent students were not fooled. And the answers that did get out and papers I handed out were many.

6. As I handed out "The killing machine that is Marxism" I said "freak out your professors and bring up these facts!"

7. I was accused of not having a permit by one leftist but I explained I was attending the WCW rally which did have a permit and invited everyone in their fliers. The police officer also said he couldn't see any reason for me not to be there. The "attack debate team," which consisted of 5-6 older men, "studiously" avoided accusing me of being a non-student older man at a student rally!

8. On to the afternoon rally. I replenished my copies of "The killing machine that is Marxism" at Pryde Business Systems who didn't charge me. (They don't like communism.) I had emailed a lot of people, some of them had agreed to meet at three in front of the Federal Building. I got there about 3:20 pm and our people had already filled the front. By the time WCW got there we were well established.

9. Dr. Ed Bravo pulled up on the most beautiful Triumph motorcycle I have ever seen. It was ultra cool. He took some photos and will post some information later.

10. "General" Pat brought a bullhorn (mine was broken) and I sang many patriotic songs including all the theme songs of the military forces...over and over. I also stated many times how Communism killed 148 million in the 20th Century while all the wars put together in the same time period killed 35 million.

11. A professor tried to debate on Communism and whether WCW was Communist but his points were really pathetic. When I showed him last year's WCW staff photo he said he didn't know a yellow circle with a red star encompassing a fist clenched rifle was a communist symbol!

He also "didn't know" that the Ba'ath party was a Communist or socialist party. He tried to claim socialism was not like Communism but had no answer as to why Iraq's socialist Ba'ath Party was allied with the Soviet Union and got most of their tanks and equipment from them. He didn't think Marxist countries ever supported terrorism! Seems like his debate method is to pretend he doesn't know things.

12. Let me try that. A young moonbat lady was chalking something on the sidewalk when Dennis (PW) asked me to use the bullhorn to warn against using the drug "crack." I didn't know why but it was a good idea. "Say no to drugs, especially crack!" I expounded with amplified voice. The accoustics are really good there. A young man from our side was washing off the sidewalk and smearing the message before the moonbat had finished writing. Later the torrential rain must have washed any of that off soon after we all left. Too bad, moonbats!

13. I have more to tell but will add that next week when I post the second half of my column in this thread. Here is the report of Protest Warrior Dennis from his blog:

I arrived promptly at 3 pm to help setup our side, I ran into an acquaintance who is also a counter-protestor, and parked near him, grabbing my american flag and my sign, we walked over to the protest site, in front of the Federal building in downtown Tucson. Others were just arriving and beginning to setup as well as my partner and I walked around the corner, I gave him my honk to support the troops sign as I unfurled old glory and patrolled the sidewalk. As people passed by I was very cordial, addressing them with a bright and cheery good afternoon, sir/ma'am, ladies, gentleman. As more counter-protestors showed up the honks were a plenty for us as we supported our troops.

Arriving on scene was a lieutenant with ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) He stood there with a semi-puzzled look on his face wondering why we were out there, and not the usual protestors who have occupied that very spot Thursday evenings for several years (We have not counter-protested them as their message is weak and we have no time for such foolishness...besides they usually show up at 5 pm and are gone by 6, most of us are still working at that time) I made it a point to walk up to this federal officer and explain that there was going to be a huge rally and protest there this evening, who was sponsoring it, and who we were. He then said ok, but the look in his eye was one of pure joy...he had seen us at the recruiting center Wednesday mornings and also the front gates of Davis Monthan AFB every 2nd and 4th Saturday. He mentioned he was in the army for a number of years serving tours in Vietnam and Gulf War I. He also said that he was at the World Trade Center in 1993 when the first attempt by Islamo Fascists failed to bring the towers down. It was shortly after that he moved to Arizona to work in the Federal Building. He couldnt come right out and say it, but you could see it, he was glad we were there.

Arriving as my conversation drew to a close was Mike Lucero, proud father of Lance Cpl Joshua Lucero who was killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb in 2004, and his family. I greeted him and he told me that earlier in the day Wayne from American Protest.net was at the rally in the UofA mall and had been attacked. Mike was in no mood to take crap, so he very wisely staked a corner and announced that it was his. I smiled, patted him on the back and told him he was a good man, that I was there with him and turned to walk back down the sidewalk.

As if on cue Wayne arrives and is immediately surrounded and asked what happened, I am busy talking to some Tucson Police officers who are on scene so I didnt hear it. Wayne walks down the sidewalk and sets up with his flyers and signs at the corner. I stroll down there and he is handing out his small slips of paper that include links to various websites. He hands one to a federal employee who had come out of the building and the man looks at it, then stuffs it in his pocket...Wayne must have been in a mood because when the man did this Wayne said, "well thanks for taking it anyway." The man calls Wayne an asshole and says F**k Bush and I started in on him, points I made...he had Bush to thank for his paycheck and the fact that he still has a job, his family should be thanking Bush as well, Bush is his boss..he stood there shell shocked and unable to answer and as he crossed the street I told him to have a good evening and thank you for serving the people of the United States by working in Federal Services. Wayne grew tired of standing there so he moved up the sidewalk.

Cue the World Cant Wait organizers. Who parked in a spot that said, "Government plated vehicles only" Nice way to start the day.

As they unloaded their pickup truck, the man kept looking up at us and scowling, we offered a good afternoon and a smile. After unloading all their signs, the pickup truck pulled away and a sullen faced tatooed man began to put a sign up on the fence surrounding the federal building that read, "Drive out the Bush regime" I am not sure .. cough cough .. how the federal police found out about this but suddenly..ahem..the Lt comes around the corner and tells the man in no uncertain terms that they are not permitted to hang anything from the fence. A defeated organizer sullenly removed the banner as more liberals showed up.

Cue the brave men and woman of Tucson PD who arrived on the southern edge of where we had established our line and sat back to keep the peace. They maintained a low profile until some moonbats started shouting angrily at us and they quickly stepped in to act as a physical barrier between us and them....with their line established by their own stupidity, we stepped back in respect of the police to allow the shouts to die down.

This is where it gets fun.

Cue a family who claimed at the earlier rally to be bombed out of their home in Lebanon, their story can be found on todays edition of the UofA Wildcat They arrived angrily and venomously. The younger woman, who according to the Wildcat is named Sowid, and her brother, Ali and their mother .. Sarah .. immediately started calling us racists and nazis and angrily shouted at us. The little one, Ali, was ready for a fight, his stance and everything proved that, using typical liberal tactics, he accused of one of our members, who looked him straight in the eye the entire time, of winking at his sister, he took a step towards him and the police casually walked into it, with their backs to us. Nothing needed to be said, he backed down. Meantime, mom and daughter are on a tyrade in my face, I calmly countered their points and as daughter got herself worked up, mom pulled her and said, "Shes a minor dont talk to her" I looked mom straight in the eye and asked her to keep her children on their leash.

As the numbers grew on the liberal side, their megaphone came out, and Stephanie Woods promptly began reading from a script. This prompted me to begin yelling SHES LYING......LOOK SHE IS READING FROM A SCRIPT, SHE CANT EVEN THINK OF ANYTHING OFF THE TOP OF HER HEAD...WE HAVE BEEN HEARING THIS FOR 6 YEARS..WHERE IS THE PROOF??? Somehow...I drowned out their megaphone, the acoustics were great in the spot I had. As Traffic came out of downtown and towards the freeway, people incredulously looked on at the scene unfolding before them. As I yelled and drowned out their rhetoric, people in cars were applauding me.

Wow...this is getting long...lots to say though, so hang with me here!

Walking back up the sidewalk towards Mike, more protestors were showing up and tried to mix in with us with their signs...as they tried to move to the curb, I calmly walked beside them with my flag blocking their rhetoric. I didn't acknowledge them, I just calmly walked them to where their side was.

There were 2 younger men who came up to Wayne and asked him for information, I looked them straight in the eye and thanked them for wanting to hear the other side and IF they formed the opinion that Bush was Hitler like the World Can't Wait bozos claimed, then I had a deep respect for them because they made that decision after hearing all viewpoints...they were genuinely suprised by this..guess they thought that our side couldnt respect anyones views other than our own, but then, that is the liberals stance...not ours.

As the evening wore on there was more shouting from the young lady mentioned before. What amazes me about this girl's story is that she has red hair and green eyes, mom has red hair and green eyes, and son has brown hair and green eyes, yet the claimed to me that they were Sunni Muslims from Iraq then changed their story that they were bombed out of their homes in Lebanon...ahem...get your story straight. Anyway, the girl goes on a rant holding up a picture which the liberals have used for years depicting a child with burns on his face and body, supposedly from a US Air strike in Iraq...or Afghanistan...or from the Israel Lebanon conflict...depends on their needs at the time. Anyway she goes on an anti-american tyrade and stood with my back to her, when she finished I yelled out while pointing to her, LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, TOKYO ROSE HAS RETURNED!!!!!!!!!!!! This drew laughter from our side, and even a cop couldnt help stifle a chuckle.

As I stood there, I heard someone yelling to get my attention...I was wearing my infidel shirt, but I didnt want to give them more of my attention than they deserved so I ignored it, I heard something about "thats my flag" blah blah blah. Someone from our side gave him attention and then I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned and a bearded beatnick was yelling at me....the megaphone started in and I couldnt hear what he was saying so I motioned for him to step closer, he must have taken this as a challenge because he squared himself up and someone reminded me that the corner of the flag I was holding had touched the ground. I immediately raised it up, and saluted him mouthing sorry about that, he is right and thank you for your service (He was wearing a vietnam veteran pin) and turned back to the street.

The rain started up and our signs were quickly collected for a trip to shelter so they wouldnt get ruined and the left took this as an opportunity to begin a mini march..30 or so of them started walking up the other side of the street led by the organisers, this led Tucson PD to start wrapping up. As I watched the Zurheides and Luceros go across the street to apply some pressure on a few moonbats with signs in front of the Hotel Arizona the police were standing near me. I told them that the march will circle around and come back, and there will be agitators with them when they do. I was virtually ignored and TPD wrapped up and left.

30 minutes later, true to my word, they returned. I was standing near a federal police officer, pointed up the street and said here they come, see the guys in front with the masks? They are trouble makers.

We all assumed our positions on the curb, a call went out to turn our backs on them and when they got close to us one of the anarchists screamed out, "later p***y, your mine" Pointing to one of our guys.

When they got back to their side the rhetoric started all over again and we mingled into their ranks and started discussions. The anarchists, in all fairness were actually very calm and reasonable with their position so we returned the respect with reasonable counter points.

There was more, but that is my perspective for now. Wayne has posted a column on his perspective of the day at his site and will post another update in a week.

We are not sure who was taking pictures...so we will have to gather them and I will post them when they come available.

Mission success.

The right has spoken, and countered the left wing lies with truth.

I forgot, here are two pictures from the Arizona Daily Wildcat from the U of A rally. That first guy I thanked for his service when I first saw him, then I said "Whoops, I didn't realize you were a phoney." The second picture is the couple who refused the printed report from the NIST. Now that I think about it, the "9/11 was an inside job" sign holder was another person. This was the couple who walked away.

Ping to Arizona Ping list! Note that Gabby Giffords, CD-8 Congressional Candidate, had a stand at the World Can't Wait U of A Rally. But hey, she's not extreme, right? Of course, she can always claim that was just some supporters she has no control over. And maybe it was.

Excellent report, Wayne. I was curious to know about how this event unfolded around the country. The people organizing and involved in WCW seem like a bunch of fanatics.

Their site doesn't promote peace, but seems to rally everyone to anger. These people want to destroy our country. I will never understand them.

Thank you for going out there representing us who love our freedom and our country.

I wonder if it has ever occured to the moonbat left that if the police really were a bunch of fascists out to control America and prevent "THE TRUTH" from getting out, and given the George Bush really is the 2nd coming of Adolf Hitler, given that the police carry guns and clubs, antagonizing might not be the...wisest move.

But then there are so many things about these people I wonder about. Large numbers of people in this country have quite simply gone insane, stark raving mad.
It's the only thing that makes any sense to me.

We'll likely see this group of clowns next month, I believe when they come to proest out side Ft Huachuca. They always come on a Saturday from Tucson and Bisbee causing the post to close the main gate for the entire morning. When I hear more I'll let you know.

Great write-up Wayne; I had no idea that stuff had happened earlier in the day. Remember that storm that was in-bound that night? Well, a lightning strike took out my router and switch so I've been without internet access until today.

Anyway, below are a couple of pix I took with my cheesy camera phone. Thanks for inviting us to the event!

Mind numb Moonbats.

I also asked if the U of A endorsed Communist directed anti-war rallies as a valid political learning experience for students, based on Professor R.J. Rummel's statement that Marxist regimes killed over a 100 million people while war killed 35 million. At the time of this posting I have received no reply.

And you will never get a reply, I'm afraid. This is one of the deep dark secrets of the leftists. They do not want to ever admit that a regime that they befriended and coddled for decades was the most murderous regime in recorded human history.

Another great FReep \/\/ayne!!

Sorry but in getting so many papers ready to take I forgot the AmericanProtest digital camera!"

Yea, so many moonbats to FReep and so little time to get organized.

RE arguing with the moonbats, it's a tough call. But I like to do it for the fence sitters. If they over hear the feeble arguments of the radical liberals, they won't come back. I'm firmly convinced that FReeps are what is keeping the moonbats protests from taking off like they did during Vietnam.

It also helps that the troops see us out there supporting them. Keep up the good work.

Camera phone notwithstanding, the moonbattery still comes through!

Congrats to all for a job well done.

Good report, good job.

Beware of these lefties tactics, they initiate violence, then quickly withdraw to lure pursuit, then allow themselves to be overtaken and engage.

After the incident, a conspirator will offer videotape to authorities showing only the last of the pursuit, and engagement making them look like victims. I've seen them do this more than once in San Francisco.

I appreciate the warning. Actually, I had a great military history class in high school, not to mention a little reading over the years so I am aware of that kind of tactic. Hopefully I will never fall for being drawn into a "kill zone." I simply drew attention to the attacker (Believe me, my voice is very loud!) That was my tactic, to expose hypocritical left-wing reaction to dissent for the students.
