ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: Members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, have been protesting at military funerals since June of last year carrying signs with anti-gay slogans. Yesterday, they announced they were planning to protest the funerals of the Amish schoolgirls shot to death to death in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earlier this week, but they have since changed their plans.

You changed your plans because Mike Gallagher has offered you airtime on his radio show, because you want to get your message out. What is that message?
SHIRLEY PHELPS-ROPER, WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH: The message is that God has put a standard in the earth. He expects his creatures to obey it. If you obey, he'll bless you. If you don't, he'll curse you. America has sent away her day of grace. America is doomed.--snip--
COLMES: Did those girls deserve to be killed?
PHELPS-ROPER: Well, they did get killed, and they did that. Who controls the hearts of men? It was at the hand of an angry God those girls are dead.

People are afraid of being sued...these whackos have done it before. Or they fear being arrested and jailed themselves.
I figger at some point, the Good Lord will judge them...just as He will judge all of us...for what we've done or didn't do.

I think she missed that one.
Anybody can call themselves "Baptist". There are many Baptist organizations, the largest is probably the Southern Baptist Convention, which is an association of Baptist churches. But neither the SBC nor anyone else has control over the name "Baptist". The SBC can disassociate itself from a church, and I'm sure it's not associated with this one, but it can't make a church change it's name.
from what I saw of this (loss for words here)- they could star in their own horror movie, maybe "the revenge of the really ugly people who think they hear voices" and never have to use a script.
But I'm a Christian raised in a Baptist tradition and I'd be happy to FREEP the socks off of them.
