Fox News: Foley Case Destroying Repub Chances
Fox News | 11/5/06

Posted on 10/05/2006 10:22:48 AM PDT by pabianice

Pending Hastert's news conference, Fox is reporting that internal Repub polls indicate that the Foley matter is destroying any chance of the Repubs keeping the House, "and maybe the Senate as well." Breaking as we await the Hastert news congerence. Fox reports that the entire country is riveted by this matter and it has "blown away" all other issues for the upcoming mid-terms.

I have a hard time believing this manufactured scandal is having this effect, but Fox seems to be shooting straight on this. Perhaps the dealy in the Hastert new conference is due to furious fighting over whether he needs to resign as speaker today. With no other candidate standing-by, Fox notes that Congress would be required to re-convene to elect a new speaker, keeping this mess in the lime light right up to election day. This ambush was apparently very well planned.

I don't know what clout Rove has with the House. The more interesting question that NO ONE is asking is whether the presence of homosexuals in Congress is itself "dangerous" to pages. They need to settle this question. If so, then that says something about Dems. If not, then that says that we then need to "out" all homosexuals, Dem and Republican.

Perhaps FOX is just lulling Democrats into complacency, making them think that victory is assured.

If they consider themselves any part of a Democrat , they will vote for perversion as Democrats have supported it to the hilt as well as NAMBLA.

That all sounds good, but unfortunately its not true. You have people who elect Democratic Senators and Congressmen but throw their state into the Republican category for President in the same election.

A large number of voters are not like us. They are not partisanly tied to one party or the other. For instance, you have many elderly voters who favor Democratic candidates for their largesse in tossing programs and money at old people.....yet will vote Republican instead if there is a clear differentiation on something like values or national defense.

A scandal like this will have a corrosive effect on that sort of voter. It is one less reason to put the Democrats aside because...if Republicans are homosexual cover-uppers too...might as well get my prescriptions paid for.

Will other issues keep such non-partisan voters on the Republican side of the bill? Maybe national defense will do it...who knows. But the fantasy that this really has no effect is just silly.

I was speaking in general terms, not specific to Foley.

good points.....too many here think voters think the way they themselves do.....your example is why SD, ND, MT vote GOP for President and Dem for other offices

Lest this be a self fulfilling prophecy, realize that the Demonrats have released only one of the poison arrows collected for this purpose from their determined quiver! I don't doubt that at least one more per week will be sent out over the airways. No matter what it takes, money or promises, the opposition is hellbent to win. So what are we going to do about it? VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!

Would you rather have a house with Log Cabin Republicans or homosexual agenda pushing Democrats?

Personally, I would rather have the Republicans in control of both the House and Senate with the Log Cabins on board, rather than a Democratically-controlled Congress. But that's just me.

This is out of 50 million voters who voted Republican! Get real, do you know simple arithmetic!

The popular vote doesn't matter; it's the electoral votes in tightly-contested states which matter, and in these tightly-contested states small numbers can become very important. A few thousand Republicans voting for Bush vs. Buchanan *in Florida* in 2000 would have prevented all the "recount" nonsense.

Because all their daytime anchors are Democrats, including Shepherd Smith

Thats right. Jane Skinner is ok. But this business about fair and balanced is such a myth. They get their talking points from the NYT just like the rest of them. They may have a Republican on to tell their side of it but you notice how what the actual newscasters say is the same $%^& the rest of them are spewing.

Practicality is not always the reigning sentiment. I know in my state we had the most conservative voting Senator ever. Seriously, he was a straight down the line conservative voter 100%.

But he got a divorce and married an aide.

Conservatives espoused their disapproval and sat at home on election day. They felt good about themselves.

But no matter how good and moral they felt about their inaction, the end result was still Mark Pryor in the Senate where we will never get him out....one less anti-abortion vote....one more vote against conservative judges and nominees.....and way less than a 100% conservative voting record.

Personally, I think it would have been better to send the candidate a strongly worded personal note stressing utter distaste for his divorce and then vote for the way he represents your beliefs in the Senate via his voting record. But thats just me I guess.

Is it time to ask Gay Republicans to leave the party?

"Gay republican" should be an oxymoron. Unfortunately, even "liberal republican" isn't an oxymoron these days.

find it hard to believe that voters in Iowa or Ohio are going to turn out a congressman that brings home the bacon because some pervert from Florida couldn't control his unnatural urges.

Finally a voice of calm and reason.

Will this change the voters minds ?

I doubt it. Most voters don't pay any attention to details. All they hear is the drone of the tv in the background saying "Republican", "homosexual", "minors", "scandal", blah, blah. They are not necessarily news junkies. They have a vague impression and they vote it. How else do you explain Kerry and Gore getting as many votes as they did?

What will change voters minds is this story going away as quickly as possible and them hearing the words "North Korea", "nuclear", "Iran", "fundamentalist" all strung together in the background. Then they will get back to thinking about what is really important and the vague impression that Democrats are clueless about those things.
