The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday by evangelical Christian students and their parents who said a Contra Costa County school district engaged in unconstitutional religious indoctrination when it taught students about Islam by having them recite language from prayers.

They will conquer us by terrorist acts or by rulings like this.

BumP the sentiment.
Heard this on radio news a couple hours ago, incredible is all I can say..
I'll guess I'll be first to say it this time.
Time to homeschool.

The beginning of the end. Well, not really. Maybe the end of the end. You had to guess this was coming.
If I comment I will get banned again.
What I think of this, I'm not saying either.
The logical response is for another teacher to do EXACTLY as this first teacher did, but also divide the class into three sections so Muslims, Jews and Christians are all represented. That way three different sets of prayers and memorizations from the Koran, Torah and New Testament can all be a part of this class project. Then let's see what happens if someone tries to stop it in the courts.
And they did it without a comment. They figure that they don't even have to have a rationale for anything they do anymore. They are way above having to explain.
We live in a small town. If that were tried here, the teacher would be very sorry, and so would the school board.
The trouble with Contra Costa is that it is too big, and obviously run by arrogant bureaucrats.
I think that I would just take my kids for a vacation for the duration of this project.
The hypocrisy sucks! Where's the ACLU now? Just another reason for home schooling.
So much for "our" "Conservative" "Supreme Court".
that is the point. if the SCOTUS strikes this down, then its also illegal for a school to have students portray Mary and Joseph, or Moses.
now that said - we all know the problem here - the schools are dominated by the left, and as such will screen out judeo-christian topics, but actively advance islamic ones. But I don't know what the court can really do about that - either this type of representation violates the separation of church and state, or it doesn't (as ruled). They can't render a decision that says it only violates separation if its about Islam.
That was the first thought that popped in my mind. Actually to just have Christian roles was my first thought but your proposal is perfect. By including all it is multi-denominational and much harder to attack. The libs on the court were content with their hypocrisy while the conservatives see this as a weapon against the ACLU's anti-christian slant. Granted that is somewhat of a rosy view but it would seem to be a fair read of the USSC's action.
What about the Buddhists, Hindus, Wiccans and Satanists? Should'nt they all have equal access? Zeus worshippers too!
And conversely, they can't rule that educational topics can not be banned just because they touch upon religious themes if that religion happens to Islam. IOW, this has nothing to do with an establishment of religion, and separation issues don't even arise.
If there were some educational reason for these topics to be touched upon, then why not include them?
Exactly. Therefore if all (or most) are represented then soon the school boards will realize it is better to remove all such lessons that would involve multiple competing religions and get back to the basic indoctrination - anti-capitalism, global warming, radical feminism etc.
