Karzai Says bin Laden Not in Afghanistan

President Hamid Karzai has insisted that Osama bin Laden is not in his country, in the latest installment in a row with the leader of Pakistan who says the Al-Qaeda chief is in Afghanistan.

Other militant leaders including Islamist warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar were also not in the country, Karzai told reporters in a briefing about his visit to the United States that was overshadowed by the spat.

'I can assure you they are not in Afghanistan,' Karzai said yesterday after being asked for his reaction to comments by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf who said Thursday that bin Laden is here.

"Plague found in northern DR Congo"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "An outbreak of pneumonic plague in the Democratic Republic of Congo has killed 42 people over the past two months, the World Health Organization reports.

Field tests looking at more than 600 suspected cases confirmed the presence of the disease near Wamba, in the northern province of Oriental.

But the WHO added that further laboratory tests were needed.

It said the scale of infection might be less as so many cases would normally mean more deaths.

"Preliminary results from a rapid diagnosis test in the field found three samples positive out of eight," the WHO said.

Suspected pneumonic plague killed 100 people in eastern DR Congo early this summer."

I can see why he would think that liberty and democracy are "just a way of spreading immorality." After all, there is plenty of immorality in the West. But he probably subscribes to the Ayatollah Khomeini's view that "whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword!" In fact, however, this may be "good," but it is not virtue. In the West there is immorality, yes, but there is also virtue that, because it is not coerced, is genuine in a way that virtue arising from force and fear can never be. The Ayatollah Shirazi is condemning liberty when it is an indispensable prerequisite for any genuine virtue.

Qom, 11 Oct. (AKI) - Iran's Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi - one of the current hardline government's key reference points - has described Western values such as freedom and democracy as "the instruments of Satan." Addressing the faithful in the holy Iranian city of Qom, he said: "The devil presents himself in many forms, and employs every means to convey his message. He uses each concept such as liberty and democracy to achieve his plans."

"Only in appearance have human rights been invented to safeguard the rights of the people. In actual fact, they are just a way of spreading immorality," the revered cleric added.

British Airways bans woman from wearing cross to work

LONDON, ENGLAND (ANS) -- British Airways (BA) has banned a Christian woman from wearing a cross on a necklace to work, a British newspaper reports.

The Daily Mail reports that Heathrow check-in worker Nadia Eweida, who is a Coptic Christian and whose father is Egyptian and mother English, was sent home after refusing to remove the crucifix that breached BA's dress code.

The move has been criticized by Christian groups and Miss Eweida's MP Vince Cable.

The Mail says Miss Eweida, who has an unblemished record during seven years at BA, is suing her employer for religious discrimination after being suspended from work without pay for two weeks.

Miss Eweida, 55, from Twickenham, told the paper: "I will not hide my belief in the Lord Jesus. British Airways permits Muslims to wear a headscarf, Sikhs to wear a turban and other faiths religious apparel.

"Only Christians are forbidden to express their faith. I am a loyal and conscientious employee of British Airways, but I stand up for the rights of all citizens."

The Mail says she was ordered to remove her cross or hide it beneath a company cravat by a duty manager at Heathrow's Terminal 4 last month.

She then sought permission from management to wear the chain -- but was turned down.

A British Airways spokeswoman confirmed a case was ongoing but said it would be "inappropriate to discuss it in detail."

The Shabbab, a Somali youth militia whose leader is believed to have been trained by al-Qaida in Afghanistan, includes several Canadians in its ranks, the sources said.

Somali-Canadians are also said to be serving in other militias, as well as in senior positions in Somalia's interim government and its opponent, the Islamic Courts Union.

The Canadians are described as refugees who moved to Toronto and Ottawa in the 1990s, some of them university students, who have returned to Somalia over the past two to three years."

A summary of the book's contents follows:

In the book, Al-Hakaymah presents an overview of the US Intelligence community, with specific attention to CIA, NSA, and FBI. He also discusses the recruitment cycle for agents, technical means of gathering intelligence, major scandals involving US intelligence agencies, and current "international espionage operations" in Iraq and elsewhere. The book also features a chapter highlighting the US Government's cover-up of the 9/11 attacks, alleging that the attacks were really part of an attempted coup d'etat carried out by elements of the intelligence community.

The book includes an alleged excerpt of the memoirs of former DCI Stansfield Turner on internal conflict in the CIA, in addition to a chapter on the alleged American propaganda campaign against Islamic movements, and a summary of a CIA assessment of expectations "about the future of the New World Order and the role of the United States up to the year 2015."

Al-Hakaymah appears to have done a great deal of research; throughout the book, he cites a number of intelligence-related articles from US media outlets, in addition to various books on the intelligence community and memoirs of former intelligence officers.
