Iran: Ahmadinejad Calls For Demographic Revolution
ADN Kronos Intl. ^ | Oct-23-06 | AKI
Posted on 10/23/2006 7:51:53 PM PDT by indcons
Tehran, 23 Oct. (AKI) - After two decade of policies by previous Iranian governments to contain the growth of the country's population, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called on Iranians to have more children. After the initial demographic boom, when the population doubled following Iran's Islamic revolution in 1979, Iran initiated a plan in 1988 to control the birth rate, based on a major campaign promoting the use of contraception. The country succeeded in reducing the growth rate of the population from 3.2 to 1.4 percent per year. Now however Ahmadinejad has said he would like to take u-turn in this policy.
"I don't agree with those who say that there is no need to have more than two children," said Ahmadinejad speaking to parliamentarians in Iran. He then went on to say that the government intends to reduce the number of hours women are required to work, in relation to the number of children they have.
"I am not saying that women shouldn't work but they presence outside of the home should not in any way compromise their principal mission which is to educate their children," said the Iranian president.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that he is convinced that Iran "has the capacity to satisfy the needs of 120 million of its citizens."
"The West fears more than anything else, our population growth and we must defeat them in this battle," he said.

Is War With Israel The Next Step For Iran?
Global Politician ^ | August 22, 2006 | Ghazal Omid
Posted on 10/22/2006 11:44:51 PM PDT by SunkenCiv
The Iranian government will fight with utmost brutality. The result will be the destruction of the beautiful Persian culture. Iran is not only harboring the terrorist group Hezbollah; it has adopted their method of fighting. Mahmood Ahmadinejad, in his interview with Mike Wallace, said that the number of registered suicide bombers has increased from 2000 in January 2006 to the current number of 54,000... While Iran was at war with Iraq, Khomani kept referring to the eight year war as a blessing. Irans only blessing from that war was over 1,000,000 casualties, including half a million dead, The regime, of course, survived many uprisings, killing over 2500 of its opposition per month and no one from the international community even blinked... Anticipating hard times, key figures have already pulled their assets from national banks; at the same time, trying to find allies among the very fragile circle of friends in the Arab community. Iran will stage a war on Israel and the US on all fronts in the coming months. US troops in the Persian Gulf can be hit by their fast boats; at least that is what Iran banking on. Iran will not put all their eggs in one basket. They will hit Israel at the same time as they step up the militia aggravation of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan; as well as hitting US troops via supporters in Arabic countries. And, Iran will interrupt oil flow.

China Holds Ethnic Koreans for Attempted Uranium Sale

China Holds Ethnic Koreans for Attempted Uranium Sale
Chinese police last month arrested two men on charges of trying to sell 1 kg of enriched uranium, an essential raw material for nuclear weapons, press reports said Monday. The two were ethnic Koreans living in China, police in Beijing confirmed. Press reports said Beijing police arrested the two men, identified as Chang and Chung, on charges of attempting to sell 969.03 grams of enriched uranium at a hotel there on Sept. 11.
Beijing police said initial investigations found the enriched uranium probably came from Russia, but sources there say the possibility that it came from North Korea cant be ruled out. One source said a considerable number of ethnic Koreans in China are involved in smuggling with North Korea. I actually met someone in a Chinese border town who asked me to find a buyer for the material and told me, I have enriched uranium smuggled from North Korea.
Uranium naturally occurs in two isotopes: U-238 (99.3 percent), and U-235 (0.7 percent). When the latter is enriched at 3-4 percent purity, it can be used for nuclear power plants, and with more than 90 percent purity, it becomes a raw material for nuclear weapons. It is not known at what purity the seized uranium was enriched. Some 15-17 kg are needed to produce nuclear weapons, but the seized amount was less than 1 kg. When U.S. envoy James Kelly visited Pyongyang in 2002, the North allegedly admitted to having its own highly enriched uranium program.

China launches two satellites with one rocket

China successfully launched two satellites into space with a Long March-4B carrier rocket early Tuesday morning.
The two satellites, which are intended for space environment exploration, were launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi province at 7:34 a.m.
One of the satellite was detached from the rocket after about 11 minutes of take-off, followed by the other about one minute later. Both have successfully entered preset orbits.
The two satellites, which form Group-02 of Shijian-6, were manufactured by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology and China's DFH Satellite Co., Ltd. respectively. Both have a designed life of more than two years.
They will replace two Shijian-6 satellites launched on Sept. 9, 2004, to conduct exploration of space environment, radiation in space and their influence, parameters of physical environment of the space, and carry out other related space experiments.

Is this the end of free speech in Russia?
Snip: ...anyone who speaks up against the government and its leaders faces possible death. To put it bluntly, it seems that hundreds of years of Czarist oppression, followed by seventy years of Stalinist repression (far worse) have been suffered by the people to no purpose at all. Russia is now, at least nominally, a democracy, but a democracy where thinkers who dare to speak their mind openly run the considerable risk of being found dead in a lift.

Danny Glover is also on the advisory board, and he made a comment, I think it might have been last year. He said, ÃÂÃÂI do not see any Afro-descendants from this region on this advisory body, nor Indigenous people, and very few women. It is critical that we keep in mind who we are talking to.ÃÂàTo this President ChÃÂávez said, ÃÂÃÂDanny, I am with you.ÃÂàHas Telesur started to address this problem in any way?
Snip: A Brazilian bike mechanic who confessed to killing one boy is suspected of slaying 41 others, O Globo TV reported Monday. Francisco das Chagas Rodrigues de Brito, 41, admitted to killing a 15-year-old boy in 2003. Chagas had previously confessed to the other killings, then retracted his statements. He blames sexual abuse as a child for his murderous streak.

Snip: Freshly printed currency worth US$2.5 million (?2 million) has disappeared from a shipment to Paraguay from Paris, a government prosecutor reported Saturday. Of 200 boxes packed with 50,000-Guarani bills, there were six boxes missing when the shipment arrived by boat at a port on the Rio Paraguay outside the Paraguayan capital of Asuncion, prosecutor Sergio Alegre said. "A report was filed for damages to the national economy. In this case, the Central Bank is the victim," Alegre said.
