"Bomb kills soldier, wounds monks in Thai south"
SNIPPET: "Another "Inner Spiritual Struggle"-related explosion, this time targeting Buddhist monks seeking alms, and the soldiers guarding them. Thai Jihad Update Reuters:"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "NARATHIWAT, Thailand (Reuters) - A remote-controlled bomb killed a soldier and wounded 11 people in Thailand's Muslim south on Sunday, police said, the latest attack in a separatist insurgency which has killed more than 1,700 since early 2004.
Militants used a mobile phone to detonate a 5-kg (11-lb) bomb hidden in a rubbish bin in the city of Narathiwat as soldiers accompanied five Buddhist monks to protect them as they sought alms, police said.
One soldier died on his way to hospital, while other soldiers, monks and four passers-by were wounded, police said.
The insurgency in the three southernmost provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat -- an Islamic sultanate until Bangkok annexed the region a century ago -- has shown no sign of abating since a September 19 coup led by a Muslim general overthrew hawkish prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra."
Snip: Three people in the Israeli town of Kiryat Gat aged 75, 70 and 52 died after receiving vaccinations against flu. All had received similar vaccinations previously and showed no signs of an adverse reaction. All suffered from some illness. All three received their flu shots from the same clinic.
Snip: Moslems in San Francisco questioned the authorities about their motive, but Michael Fleming, a Customs and Border Protection spokesman, refused to give any details of the case but said, "His application for entry into the U.S. was determined to be inadmissible."
Snip: When Caribou Coffee went public last year, sharp-eyed investors noticed some unusual promises in its prospectus. Caribou, the nation's second-largest coffeehouse chain, said it would never sell pork or porn and wouldn't charge or receive interest.
By following financial rules that are part of the Islamic code called Shariah, Caribou is among a small but growing list of Western businesses looking to make themselves as attractive as possible to Muslim investors. Some, like Caribou, are motivated by principle, while others see Muslim investors as an attractive new source of money.
Mecca witnesses historic Iraqi document
Snip: The Muslim holy city of Mecca witnessed an agreement between Iraqi Sunni and Shi'ite religious figures on Friday aimed to end sectarian bloodletting. Iraqis hope that this agreement may build up their new non-violence and democratic state after 30 years of "Saddamism."
Sponsored by the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the meeting has approved a declaration prohibiting the killing of Muslims in Iraq and called for safeguarding the unity of the country.
THANKS MamaDearest for that follow-up.

Arrest memo sparks controversy
Snip: POLICE in Manchester have been told not to arrest Muslims wanted on warrants at prayer times during the holy month of Ramadan.
An internal email listing prayer times was sent to officers in the metropolitan division asking them not to make planned arrests during those periods for reasons of religious sensitivity, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.
Muslim husband attacks male gynocologist
Snip: The statement by the CNGOF professional association mentioned a similar incident that occurred in a Paris-region hospital in 2003. In both attacks, gynecologists were "physically attacked and injured by the husbands of patients on the grounds that as male doctors they should not examine their wives," the statement said.
However the hospital authorities said they had "not at this stage confirmed any religious motivation" behind the latest incident. French Health Minister Xavier Bertrand on Friday condemned the September incident, but also said he could not confirm that it was related to "religious or cultural motives." "Hospitals must remain absolutely neutral from the religious and ideological point of view," he said.
Unpaid bills squeezing America's hospitals
Snip: When an illegal immigrant suffers a serious illness or injury, it can cost hospitals tens of thousands of dollars a day, compounding an already mounting pile of uncompensated- and charity-care expenses generated by the uninsured at U.S. facilities.
And when illegal immigrants have no family in the United States to take them in to convalesce, it's common for hospitals to spend $25,000 or more to fly them back to their home countries such as Mexico, Poland, the Ukraine or South America on medically equipped jetliners.
Hospitals can seek some relief through a $1 billion federal program that offers reimbursement for emergency room costs associated with undocumented immigrants, but inpatient and extended care are not covered, and those costs add up quickly and put a strain on hospitals.
What's new? USDA Spanish language food stamps
Snip: Just when you thought the US government couldn't possibly behave any more irresponsibly, they do something to once again prove us all wrong. The latest example is the effort being made by the US Department of Agriculture to distribute food stamps within the Latino community. It seems our tax dollars are being spent on Spanish language television advertisements in order to "promote" still another massive government giveaway.
Ostensibly, this marketing effort is to provide information to Spanish speaking citizens and other legal immigrants who would qualify based on the USDA's eligibility guidelines. Those guidelines apparently include a number of non-citizens in the rather loosely worded definition.
Thank you MamaDearest for that roundup.

'We Are Targeting Europe' (Taliban)
Sky News ^ | Monday October 23, 2006 | Sky News
Posted on 10/22/2006 11:15:21 PM PDT by Eurotwit
A Taliban commander has told Sky News that the militants are for the first time plotting to attack Westerners in Britain and the rest of Europe.
In a rare interview, the commander insisted the militants had stockpiles of weapons and would never give-up exacting revenge from what he called "the foreign invaders".
He confirmed that Taliban fighters are taking refuge within neighbouring Pakistan and were being helped by locals sympathetic to their cause.
Sky's Asia correspondent Alex Crawford and her cameraman Phil Hooper travelled to the dangerous Pakistani border region for an exclusive report.
The commander, Mullah Mohammed Amin, an official in the Taliban government at the time of the US-led Coalition invasion in 2001, claims to have been a fighter for about 15 years.
He said that the resurgent Taliban was inspired by tactics used by militants in Iraq - and wanted to export terror to the West. Sky's Alex Crawford Sky's Alex Crawford
He was speaking as controversy over Britain's involvement in the War on Terror increases.
A total of 41 UK troops have been killed since the invasion, many of them since redeploying to the dangerous southern Helmand province in May.
Leaked emails have also appeared to show increasing frustration among some British troops, many of whom are involved in some of the fiercest fighting the UK has been involved in for decades.
Referring to Tony Blair and George Bush, Mullah Amin said: "It's acceptable to kill ordinary people in Europe because these are the people who have voted in the Government.
"They came to our home and attacked our women and children.
"The ordinary people of these countries are behind this - so we will not spare them. We will kill them and laugh over them like they are killing us and laughing at us."
He said Taliban fighters were learning from the Iraq insurgency in their use of remote-controlled bombs, landmines and suicide bombers. He said: "They are our best tactic."

"Back door to terror?"
By Oliver North
October 22, 2006
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Since September 11, 2001, Americans living along the U.S.-Mexican border have been warning that our porous frontier is a back door for terrorist entry into this country. Local, state and federal law enforcement officers, overwhelmed by the flow of human traffic across the border, have acknowledged the threat -- and have been widely ignored by the mainstream media and "official" Washington. "BLAST KILLS ONE
World War II Bomb Explodes on German Motorway"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A highway construction worker in Germany accidentally struck an unexploded World War II bomb, causing an explosion which killed him and wrecked several passing cars.
A World War II bomb has exploded during construction work on a German highway, killing one worker and injuring several motorists who were driving past, police said.
The worker had been cutting through the road surface near the south-western town of Aschaffenburg when his machine struck the bomb and triggered it. Police said they weren't sure yet what type of bomb it was. "The explosion seems to have been too small for it to have been an aircraft bomb," a police spokesman said.
The A3 Autobahn linking the cities of Frankfurt and Würzburg has been blocked in both directions.
More than 60 years since the end of World War II, construction workers still frequently unearth unexploded bombs and it is not uncommon for whole city districts to be cordoned off and even evacuated while bomb disposal experts defuse them.
Indeed, just last week, some 22,000 people were evacuated from their homes in Hanover when three World War II bombs were discovered.
