Canadian Border guards flee their posts

Canadian Border "Guards" Flee Posts After Security Scare That's weird because I thought guards were there specifically in the event there was a security threat. Silly me.

Guards walk off job at four B.C. border crossings

Canadian border guards at four crossings in the Lower Mainland of B.C. have walked off the job in response to a security scare.

CTV Vancouver reported Sunday night that lineups at four crossings into Canada are massive. Gary Barndt reported from the station's helicopter that the lineups appeared to be several kilometres long at one crossing...This was the first time she could recall all four crossings been affected this way.

The situation started in the afternoon when U.S. Homeland Security officials told the RCMP that a suspected killer from California, who should be considered armed and dangerous, might try to cross the Canadian border.

They thought he was heading northward towards Anacortes, Wa.on a motorcycle -- located about 60 kilometres due south of the border, but sharing a ferry route with Sidney, B.C. -- where a motorcycle rally was taking place. Many Canadians attended the Oyster Run, as it's called.

The RCMP informed the border guards, who walked off first at Huntington at 2:15 p.m. , then the other three crossings. About 60 guards are believed to be off the job.

I'm impressed. Perhaps it's time for a wall up north, too

Canada has never armed the Customs & Immigration officials stationed on the U.S. border.

It's always been an UNDEFENDED border.

Judging by the comments of some on this thread, you'd think we should be setting tank-traps by the Peace Arch.

In any event, these government employees will be armed soon enough. I, for one, do not see this as a security improvement - just posturing, imho.

Also, thought the new PM was friendly to the US.

Very.

Do not doubt that for one minute.

Apparently they are not yet armed, which I don't understand.

Before 9//11 their was a Muslim planning to bomb LAX here in Los Angeles -

he crossed over from Vancouver to Washington State, and was then apprehended by our Customs Agents, not Canada's - -

they just let him pass thru . . .

Duh, Canadian customs agents don't check people leaving their country. US customs don't check people leaving the US.

BTW, questionable FRiend, you meant there, not their.

Many of the folks around here are more worried about the little brown lettuce picker.

According the Cal prisoner stats, they should be.

Canadian Border Guards used to be armed. But in the early liberal years ( The 70s I think) The trudeau government disarmed them ( Think Liberal, think inviting the friendly masses from abroad, think kindness and invitation, no GUNS!)

Now when tgere is a seurity threat, the RCMP are supposed to support the Border Patrol. However, these days they are too busy marrying each other, in dress uniform to bother with supporting the border patrol.

Canada is in a fix, caused by 40 years of liberal hoo haw , and now we see just where we would be if Harper had not been elected.

The Canadian Border patrol are not a po9lice force, they are uniformed civil servants who are untrained in security, but are trained to keep out foreign vegetables and meat products, and are trained to welcome ALL from abroad. No border patrol officer is expected to put their life at risk, the dangerous work is supposed to be RCMP work. Its a UNION thing.

Harper will fix this but it will take a time we do not have.

I kinda find the jihadists with cars full of explosives a little more threatening in general.

Charles Ng high-tailed it up to Canada . .

Charles Ng was returned to the United States; he was your creation, and you got him back.

WTH are you trying to do here? Stop telling half truths, dammit! Conservatives support each other, beyond borders.

Get it?

Anything "Mamby Pamby" goes over big in Canada. To prove it, I'll bet the "fleers" still have their jobs.

"our neighbors have been 'do-nothings', for far too long !"

I don't understand your post - it's what they did do that has me worried.

Running away from doing what you were hired to accomplish seems quite sufficient to damn them in my book.

A border guard help stop the millenium bombers

It was a U.S. Border Guard (a woman in fact) that nabbed the islamofascist trying to come into the U.S. from B.C. Canada to bomb the Seattle Space Needle.

So I guess we can say that U.S. women border guards are more manly than Canadian border guards. :)

I guess criticizing something your neighbours do (which has no effect on y'alls) is a good way of taking the focus off your own problems like a senior members of your Gov't diddlin Pages and/or covering it up..
What a bunch of do-nothing perverts.
And to criticize anything we do or don't do on our borders is really a laugh when you consider what's happening on your southern border.
Some of you guys are way worse then any Liberal I've ever run across..

The Canadians aren't allowed to carry firearms. When an A&D heads their way, they leave.

The new PM has said he will get them armed, but it hasn't happened yet. So when weird stuff goes down, we do the shooting.

The RCMP are used in such cases ... responding to armed situations.

Have you EVER been out of the country, particularly over our land border to Canada (or even Mexico)? You do NOT have to go through ANY Canadian checkpoint to leave Canada. You do NOT have to go through ANY U.S. checkpoint to leave the United States (you may have to pay toll to go to or from Canada or Mexico, over some bridge crossings - but it's just a toll booth - there aren't any customs inspectors there).

Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

Yeah, in Bizarroland where thousands of Canadians illegally cross the border each year to "do jobs Americans don't want to do". Give me a break.
