Just breaking on CNN head line banner.
(Excerpt) Read more at cnn.com ...
The plane has been found. No signs of survivors.
This was on FoxNews, and that's all the info they gave.
Strange snippet:
Defense Minister Waldir Pires told Band TV the Embraer Legacy with five passengers made an emergency landing at the Cachimbo air force base, and Embraer said no injuries were reported.
Piers said the Embraer pilot told the authorities "he practically did not see the plane. When he saw something it was but a shadow. And he felt a shock, which made him lose part of a wing." Nevertheless, radars showed the Legacy and the Boeing were flying with an altitude difference of about 1,000 feet (300 metres).

Congrats!
so there was a mid-air collision??
CNN Developing >> Crashed Brazilian passenger plane appears to have plunged vertically into the ground, Brazil's airport authority says, according to Reuters.
Thank you all, bowing grandly.
Seems they just don't know yet.
How can there be a mid-air collision if they were 1000 feet apart?
What if, the 737 blew up, and some debris hit the Embraer?
hmmmm
Reading this again from the post above:
>>>the Embraer Legacy with five passengers made an emergency landing at the Cachimbo air force base<<<
That means the AFB was, obviously, the closest place to land.
How close was the AFB to the impact/non-impact, mid-air non-collision?
I must say, I'm intrigued.
Brazilian press now reporting possible SURVIVORS just found . . .

There is no info on the number os survivals yet
Below from the link I posted about possible survivors - anyone speak Portugese?
From airliners.net post #82
I am now hearing that the two events may not be connected.
A suggestion has surfaced that the 738 exploded midair for reasons unknown.

Apparently the pilot of the Legacy aircraft told investigators there was a mid air collision.
Thanks for the ping, V. I hadn't heard about this crash.
Praying that they will find many survivors of this horrible crash.
>>>I'd be wary of taking anything posted on Airliners.net as fact.
I agree, that's why I always include the fact that the information is from airliners.net.
2 points of interest, IMO:
Brazilian officials and Embraer have yet to confirm if the accidents were related.
Eyewitnesses in the area where the Gol plane disappeared said they saw an explosion in the air.

Right now, I'm not going to start speculating what the cause might have been. Too many people love to assign a cause when all they have are 10% of the facts and a lot of rumor.
