Just breaking on CNN
That pic of Lindsey Graham always gave me the creeps.
That's a better question.
I really don't have much appetite for Foley going to a cell to do hard time really. His problem, is that his closetedness caused rather severe arrested emotional development. Just me theory of the moment. Just my off the hip thought.
I saw the page myself; he's believeable; they KNEW because they WARNED the incoming pages.
Either you like to argue for the sake of arguing or you have no grasp of the real world.
What the heck is that kid (if it's a kid) doing replying to all of Foley's questions.
I said no such thing.
There is speculation on this thread that RNC muckety mucks covered for this guy.
IF that is true, all of the shelterers must resign immediately and if THAT dirty laundry cost the House....well.....who do they have to blame?
The "kid" was in training to be a vice cop
Nobody is as reckless as Mark Foley was with the e-mails and IM's without someone knowing about it. That's the way the world works.
That Hastert was notified was reported earlier in the day and Alexander (R) is the one who informed Hastert. It was also reported earlier that pages were told to watch out for Foley.
From today's Post, the House GOP tries to explain itself. It's weak:
Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-La.), who sponsored the page from his district, said he had learned of some of the online exchanges from a reporter some months ago and passed on the information to Rep. Thomas Reynolds (R-N.Y.), chairman of the House Republican campaign organization, the Associated Press reported. Alexander said he did not pursue the matter further because "his parents said they didn't want me to do anything."
Carl Forti, a spokesman for the GOP campaign organization, said Reynolds learned from Alexander that the parents did not want to pursue the matter, AP reported.
Shimkus said in a statement last night, "in late 2005, I was notified by the then Clerk of the House," that Alexander had told the Clerk "about an email exchange between Congressman Foley and a former House Page. I took immediate action to investigate the matter."
In the email, "Foley asked about the former Page's well-being after Hurricane Katrina and requested a photograph," Shimkus said. He said Foley assured him it was an innocent exchange, but "nevertheless, we ordered Congressman Foley to cease all contact" with the boy and to respect all pages. "Only now have I learned that Congressman Foley was not honest about his conduct," Shimkus said.
What in the heck was Foley asking him those questions? Geeze.
Well, based on what has been revealed thus far, and presuming nothing further for the sake of argument, then I would agree with you. Foley's career and reputation have properly come crashing down into oblivion, so unless there's more than the contemptible IMs that have been linked I'd also say that's punishment enough.
However, if a law has been violated, and particularly if it's a law sponsored or endorsed by Foley, then he should be prosecuted to the full extent.
I cannot believe you are basing a Republican doomsday scenario on that page.
As for the real world, people also lie in the real world and they do a darn good job at it. I'll be shocked if you have never had the common experience of being fooled by someone. Some liars are so good that they convince even the most skeptical that they are telling the truth.
Did you notice those emails were dated 2005? Do you suppose he did quit? Do you suppose that is the last of them, or do you think there might be some more recent ones.
And you're right: that's weak as hell.
Just saw the story on Drudge.
Yup, you're right, seems he didn't get shafted after all. Um, maybe I'd better rephrase that...
Yep. If you talk the talk then walk the walk. Anything less is rank hypocrisy.
Suppose they're not faked, suppose they're real? Then what?
I cannot believe you're dumb enough not to consider that.
And I might remind you that you have been CONSISTENTLY wrong about this story, while I, on the other hand, have been right.
My comment that you quoted was specifically related to the report that this is part of some big Republican cover-up. There is absolutely no proof of that outside what one page has said.
Definitely, but does closetedness foster this kind of rather pathetic activity? I mean, why doesn't this guy just hit the gay bars or something? Even odder, is that I think most voters assumed he was gay. So why didn't he just do a Kolbe? Is it Catholicism or what?
