Just breaking on CNN
I do not know.
Now that is disgusting. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt because I didn't see anyhing wrong with what little I saw of the emails yesterday. And he has the nerve of being such an activist for child porn on the internet.

Foley beat his opponent more than 2-1 the last time. In 1998 he ran unopposed. In other words, it should be a safe Republican district. If Foley had resigned sooner, another Republican might have won the seat in November. I don't know what the rules are about write-in campaigns, but this close to the general election it would probably require someone who is already well-known to step forward as a candidate.
He resigned!
According to an AP article on it, it stated he can be replaced. That's where I got the answer. It is the AP after all, so who knows.
Both, not an either or
A democrat or Scott Ritter either.
It didn't affect my congressman,Gerry Studds. And it was more than an allegation.
From answers.com
Studds is remembered chiefly for his role in the Congressional page sex scandal in 1983, when he and Representative Dan Crane were censured by the House of Representatives for separate sexual relationships with a minor in Studds's case, a 1973 relationship with a 17-year-old male congressional page.
snip
As the House read their censure of him, Studds turned his back and ignored them. Later, at a press conference with the former page standing beside him, the two stated that what had happened between them was nobody's business but their own.
Studds was re-elected five more terms after the censure.
Ugh.

I'm thinking Hannibal Hamlin is another troll.

Are you sure Foley is a Democrat? Other article has an "R" after his name.
Almost right. Democrats "deny deny, deny" and if they need Phase II they then call everyone against them bigots.
Maybe? I guess it depends on if any...uh, y'know...actually happened, and what the age of consent is in the jurisdiction where it might've happened. I honestly don't know if propositioning someone who's 16 or 17 for sexual acts via email or IM is actually illegal, or if it is, whether it's federal or local.

Don't know for sure, but has all the signs.
I am surprised, I really did not think there was much to this story. Now it makes me think that perhaps there is more in those emails that was not released that is far more suspect than asking about a birthday and a photo. Wonder if anyone has any more of the emails published?
sadly, I have a suspicion a lot more investigating of Mr. Foley will ensue. but the old double standard flag sure has popped up again..
Hastert must be about ready to spit nails.
Foley's had allegations about being gay before, so while the emails themselves might be innocent and just a little weird under normal circumstances, in this case, it's probably true.
But this really, really hurts for November. For the first time, I'm now pessimistic about holding the house. This seat is now essentially a gimmie for the D's if Fox is right about the replacement laws in Florida.
