Murtha's GOP foe snubbed By Robert Novak
Sunday, September 24, 2006
WASHINGTON
The long-shot Republican chance to defeat anti-war Democrat Rep. John Murtha got longer still when Pennsylvania Republican State Chairman Rob Gleason canceled a Monday fundraiser for Murtha's GOP opponent, Washington County Commissioner Diane Irey.
Irey's staffers accused Gleason of being too close to Murtha, a fellow resident of Johnstown. They claimed the Republican chairman has been talking down Irey's chances in Republican circles. Irey has reduced Murtha's big lead but still is far behind.
"I told her that I spend all my time and effort having fundraisers for the Cambria County GOP," Gleason told this column. "So to go back to the donors would be difficult." He said the Irey campaign was asking too much of party donors and did not understand "the way we operate up here."

I just donated $200.00 to Irey!

If this race is close, then the RNC will throw some money at it....I don't know if they have decided to do so or not....I do know that they are not funding Swann's race.
novak is a dim... he always has been and he always will be! He is also a friggin' liar!

Thanks for the post and ping.
Interesting piece by Novak regarding Gleason.
Hey, friend...couldn't resist "pinging" this to you. Not great news, but I don't know how big of an impact it will really have.
Then I suggest you contact the elite shakers of the GOP in PA and tell them not to donate to Murtha and other DEM candidates.
Thanks for supporting Diana Irey, many FReepers have donated to her campaign.
Well at least Novak considers this one of the few races in play, although not a probably pickup.
This is encouraging. If no-facts calls Irey a long shot she must be a lot closer than anyone is saying. no facts is the person in American politics who is wrong more often than little dick morris.
Thanks to Bob Novak for the national exposure for Diana!
If you would like to contribute to the campaign, please send contributions to:

We have the same thing in OK at the state level. There is no problem with our federal but the good ol' boys don't like the grassroots.
Think it is time for the grassroots Republican activists to oust some of these folks in charge of the party.
For donations and information Diana Irey has two sites now.

Oh no, not an intursion! We're doomed!
I know the way the RNC, NRCC, NRSC, ORP, and everyone else operates up there:
F-- the grassroot schmucks! Leave the job to the professioanls!
These people are so delusional that they think they, and they alone, are responsible for Bush's 2nd term, and things like the FR exposing the faked documents and the Swift Boat Veterans had nothing to do with it.
More than one "professional" told me that the SwiftVets were a liability to the Bush campaign, because it took them "off message."
It was about that time I decided to never help a candidate at the Federal or statewide level ever again.
The PA state GOP leaders have their heads in their asses.
Murtha is a Dim lightning rod; and because they have not worked hard to help the GOP candidate trying to defeat him, Murtha is a net fund raiser for other PA Dim candidates, because the GOP is letting him look like a winner.
Submerging Murtha would submerge some of the Dim base, in the knowledge that Murtha was going to lose.
Sounds to me like PA is filled with a bunch of Pataki-style GOP leaders; out for themselves while the party whithers.
cool.
the mailing address is still the same for anyone who wants to contribute to her campaign directly, as I do:

Has anybody taken a good look at some of those PA GOP websites ? "The way we operate here"? I can see how "they operate". Murtha's votes have been against some of the most needed reforms any congress has come up with. He's been obstructionist from the get go never mind his inflamatory statements about our troops. This is one guy who should get dumped just on principle. http://www.theusmat.com
