So besides raising our income and raising tax receipts, the fair tax would boost the market?

Can you imagine what the stock market would be doing if the media actually reported the truth and didn't try to "talk it down" at every opportunity. We are in better economic shape now than we EVER were during the Klintoon years, but if you listed to the media it's a depression.

And if you remember this same media in late 2000 was crucifying Bush for "talking down" the economy, as though he was the cause of the slowdown. Now they are 100% invested in night and day trying to undermine the confidence of the US population.
That's why I posted this thread (even though we haven't yet closed at a new high), we need to talk up the economy, it is the greatest and most resilient ever seen in the history of the world. If you cannot make it with a decent life here and now, you would have had no chance at any other time and place in history...

Sorry---enough with what we already have. It's coming along, though.

America doesn't ignore its poorest citizens. Americans have a different philosophy than many Europeans. We believe in individual self reliance. I lived overseas for 9 years (4 years in Germany). I have traveled to 35 different countries (some don't exist any more).
My four years in Germany were wonderful. I loved the country and people. However, I was shocked at the level of state control and socialism. Employment benefits are unbelievable. Workers would say home at nearly full salary, not looking for a job for a year or more. 6 weeks of paid vacation and a CURE vacation every four years. The taxes were so high, my office had Germnan local national employees in high salary positions refuse bonuses since the Government would get 60% of the bonus in taxes. One worker explained to me, why should I try to get a promotion, its more stress and the extra pay is mainly paid in taxes. The US tried to fire a worker for taking a bribe and we still had to pay him severance costs.
Also, everything is regulated strictly in Germany. When you move to a new neighborhood, you have to go down to the Post Office and register so the government knows where you live all the time. The stores were closed when most people are off work, so you almost have to take off work to shop. The only place that is virtually unregulated in the autobahn where people can drive as fast as they want.
I can see why socialism was born in Germany.
It is a wonderful country, and the only thing that saves it is that the people are smart and have a culture of industriousness.
Socialism fosters dependence and damages self-reliance.
Long live free enterprise.

BTW, the 11722 and 11750 areas represent all time high prints for the Dow on a closing and intraday basis respectively. We'll probably test both of those a couple of times before going through (if we're going through at at all). A lot of people bought at those levels in 2000 and have bitter memories. But with all the negative sentiment out there, from a contratian point of view, we'll eventually pass those numbers like mail boxes on the highway.

Yep we are struggling. By our own decisions. We buy too much house and make $300 phone bills a "necessity".

If you cannot make it with a decent life here and now, you would have had no chance at any other time and place in history... As I said in an earlier post on this thread, if you are of average intelligence, the only reason you would not have at least a comfortable middle class life here is because you are simply too lazy to get off your ass and work.

I think more tax cuts could help.... and repealing of certain taxes will definintely help.... and an overall cut in capital gains, or abolishing capital gains completely would REALLY help!

we need those car dvd's oh yep. Heck I hear I can watch a football game on the big screen, computer and cell phone at the same time! What a crock. Females and adolescents seem to be mesmerized by all this unnecessary crap. The ad people wisely sic these folks on the father of the family. They make it seem cute with the little hints about having this or that service. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Oil is SKYROCKETING from 60 to 63 and up now just in 2 days.Another part of the Rovian plot! This increase is their response to those saying Bush is forcing the oil price down. Then, when it is too close to the election, he is going to force it way down again.

It would have been if a Dhimmi-crat had been in office, and created an FDR-style "new deal".
Bush whetted the tax cut knife, and so here we are. Busting our a$$e$ here at home, and laying the smackdown on terrorists abroad!
