Sen. Hillary Clinton has spoken up in support of her husband Bills defense of his anti-terror efforts, saying shes tired of Democrats being pushed around on national security issues.
"I just think that my husband did a great job in demonstrating that Democrats are not going to take this, she said on Monday in remarks reported by Newsday.
In a heated discussion with Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday, Bill Clinton said that as president, he did more than many of his conservative critics to pursue al-Qaida, and alleged that President Bush didnt try to stop terrorism in the eight months of his presidency before the 9/11 attacks.
Hillary agreed, adding: "All you have to do is read the 9/11 commission. I thought all he did was state what had been repeatedly found in the various studies that have taken place.
Hillary continued: "I'm certain that if my husband and his national security team had been shown a classified report entitled 'Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States,'" Clinton said, "he would have taken it more seriously than history suggests it was taken by our current president and his national security team."
Curiously, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also referred to the commission in ripping Clintons claims and defending the Bush administrations efforts against terrorism: "I would just suggest that you go back and read the 9/11 commission report on the efforts of the Bush administration in the eight months . . .
"The notion somehow for eight months the Bush administration sat there and didnt do that is just flatly false and I think the 9/11 commission understood that.
In any case, even conservatives like Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol see political benefits in Clintons headline-grabbing counterattack on his critics. He said: "In this interview, Clinton rallied Democrats. He reminded them of their talking points on Bush's alleged passivity in his first eight months in office . . .
"If the Bush-Rove war-on-terror offensive stalls out this week . . . and Democrats do well in November, Bill Clinton can take credit, at a crucial moment, for discrediting the terror issue as a mere political ploy, and showing Democrats how to fight back.
Can't push around the maniac who's in full meltdown...lol.
Now we know what button to push again and again and again......
They can try and spin this all they want, but the rapist was in full meltdown!
Bill can only be pushed around by Hillary. Hillary and Arab terrorists. But he's more afraid of Hillary.
From her personal experience, she probably would recommend using a table lamp or telephone.
How pathetic. No real man, this loser.
Maybe not. But boy howdy - he sure dodges flying books and ash trays thrown at him by her Thighness.
This is the funniest thing I have ever heard in my life. Hilly saying the rapist won't be pushed around? I'm falling out of my chair laughing so hard. The dems have gone insane.
In the Clinton's alternative universe, asking a question is equal to being pushed around.
Bill's tombstone will read "He Tried as Hard as He Could".
I love this. First, Carvile and The Forehead run out and rub Bill's stink all over them, and now Hil-liar-y.
And Hil-liar-y, contrary to all the hype, is not a very bright individual IMHO.
So, shouting provable lies is now considered 'standing up' and 'not being pushed around'?
Democrats won't be held accountable, eh, Hillary? What's new?
I'm not altogether sure what Kristol is, but I'm pretty sure he's not a conservative. Anyway, as for rallying points, if the dems need ol' BJ Clintoon to remind them of their talking points, they're in baaaaad shape. And everytime Hillary opens her big mouth and defends him, it just reminds the rest of us what a miserable piece of work she is.
The odd part is the "Chinese Finger Trap" aspects of all this. The harder they try to erase the fact they did nothing the more that one fact stands out starkly.
Behaving in a manner such as Bill Clinton did will not help Democrats. Much of their anti whatever rhetoric is just that, rhetoric. Fortunately for us they have now pounded those drums for so long and so loud that no one will believe differently of them.
LOL!
