In advance of signing Californias landmark greenhouse gas reduction measure, Gov. Schwarzenegger announced today that he signed a package of bills that will help reduce Californias greenhouse gas emissions.
The science is clear. The global warming debate is over," said Gov. Schwarzenegger We have a responsibility to act now. These bills, along with my signing of Californias landmark greenhouse gas bill later this week, will help California reduce greenhouse gas emissions and continue our leadership on protecting the environment.
Specifically, Gov. Schwarzenegger signed the following three bills:
SB 107 by Senator Joseph Simitian (D-Palo Alto) requires investor owned utilities such as Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas and Electric, to have 20 percent of its electricity come from renewable sources by 2010. Previously, state law required that this target be achieved by 2017.
AB 1925 by Assemblymember Sam Blakeslee (R-San Luis Obispo) requires the California Energy Commission to study and make recommendations for capturing and storing industrial carbon dioxide.
SB 1686 by Senator Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica) authorizes the Wildlife Conservation Board to take into account the potential of forestlands to beneficially reduce or sequester greenhouse gas emissions when it prioritizes funds available for proposed acquisitions. It also specifies that the Wildlife Conservation Board may use policies, protocols and other relevant information developed by the California Climate Action Registry in determining a project's potential to reduce or sequester greenhouse gas emissions.
How about just getting rid of all the people on the left coast, that should clear up a lot of the problem?
"Carbon"!
My God!
For a moment I thought you said "Caribou" emissions!
When's the "actor/lout" gonna launch that one?
Stay your post. It's good to know someones watching the store.
You're only leading if people are following, Arnie.
More like bankrupt your state.
Hey Arnie...
The words "global warming" provoke a sharp retort from Colorado State University meteorology professor emeritus William Gray: "It's a big scam." And the name of climate researcher Kevin Trenberth elicits a sputtered "opportunist."

Now our air will be pure enough to get a good whiff of the stench coming from the environmental catastrophe at our southern border. Idiot!

Cars don't cause air pollution, people who drive cars do.
Take away all the diver's licenses and the air pollution will go away.
Nothing like moving up the timetable for a mass exodus of productive business from the state, not to mention skyrocketing energy costs for every resident.
Will it ever end?
"Will it ever end?"
Not until the 3rd rate commie actor is sent back to Austria.
What ever happened with their joke lawsuit?
How is this any different from what Angelides would do?
Over to you FO.
Let the spinning begin...
Don't worry about it!
Hey, if the energy companies can't get 20% of their output from "alternative" sources, they will just cut 20% of your power! No problem.
I suggest a lot of BBQ. And you don't need that wasteful air conditioning and heating! No computer for you! No cieling fans. No big TVs.
There are lots of lawsuits, but you're probably talking about the AG Lockyer's suit against automakers for being a "public nuisance". The automakers sued the State over 2002 legislation regulating emissions from tailpipes. In response (and for publicity), Lockyer filed suit against the automakers last week.
The thread subject is part of a whole new set of global warming legislation coming into law. Tomorrow's zinger will be AB 32 which regulates all industry greenhouse gas emissions. Another is AB 1012 that requires half of the cars sold in the state to run on alternative fuels by 2020. Yet another is SB 1368 that will prohibit utilities in the state from buying electricity from out-of-state power plants if they didn't meet certain greenhouse gas emission requirements.
Out of the 1000 or so new laws passing the Governor's desk, I'm sure there are others that we haven't heard about yet.
Carbon dioxide is the very basis of life; any reduction in CO2 will likely have a disastrous effect on all plant life on earth. Particularly, it would cause a loss of phytoplankton in the oceans, which would directly cause a loss of zoeplankton, which in turn would cause mass deaths of fish and marine mammals.
These leftists are always tampering with the balance of all things, without regard for the inevitable consequences.
Bump - what a bunch of airheads.
The real problem is, Grayout Davis or Scandelides would have done no better.
So much for new powerplants.
