WASHINGTON - President Bush on Tuesday said it is naive and a mistake to think that the war with Iraq has worsened terrorism, disputing a national intelligence assessment by his own administration. He said he was declassifying part of the report.
"Some people have guessed what's in the report and concluded that going in to Iraq was a mistake. I strongly disagree," Bush said.
He asserted that portions of the classified report that had been leaked were done so for political purposes, referring to the Nov. 7 midterm elections.
Bush announced that he was ordering parts of the report declassified during a White House news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Portions of the document that have been leaked suggest that the threat of terrorism has grown worse since the Sept. 11 terror attacks and the war in Afghanistan, due in part to the war in Iraq.
Democrats have used the report to bolster their criticism of Bush's Iraq policy. The administration has claimed only part of the report was leaked and does not tell the full story.
Both the chairman and the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee have urged the White House to release the material.
Using a portion of the report to attack his Iraq policy and suggest it has fanned more terrorism is "naive," Bush said.
"I think it's a mistake for people to believe that going on the offense against people that want to do harm to the American people makes us less safe," he said.
Well that sure explains why the Democrats went for this absrud nonsense. See Karhizd just OWN the Democrats Activist pretending to be an AP "Journalist" Jennifer Loven? Just hummilated the snotty little bitch when she pulled out her DNC paid for propaganda statement pretending to be a "Question".
I suppose the Dems will say the report is being released for political purposes. But it was leaked for ??????
That's a poor analogy. Chemotherapy DOES make you sicker; it's a poison. In a way of thinking, the question is: With chemo, what's going to die first, you or the cancer? The idea is to give you a dose just strong enough to kill the cancer without killing you.
Terrorists get angrier when we fight back. In essence, that's the crux of the "we're making more terrorists" mantra.
Would these idiot "spy agencies" also argue that the war in Afghanistan has NOT agitated Muslims or created more terrorists because they understand and accept that campaign as legitimate? Of course not. But that's exactly what they're suggesting every time they use this line of attack against the war in Iraq. Republicans need to call them on it and make them say it when they're hitting the talk shows with this drivel this week.
"Does the war in Afghanistan agitate Muslims or create more terrorists also?"
If they answer "yes", then their point is moot. Military action obviously agitates the enemy while presenting propaganda and recruiting fodder for the bad guys. That alone is no basis for opposing any particular military action. If the DNC spinners answer "yes", they're caught selectively applying this universal truth of war for political gain.
And if they answer "no", then they're flat-out suggesting that radical Muslims -- the kind of people who were on the fence about blowing themselves up for jihad prior to the war -- actually SUPPORT the war in Afghanistan. And at that point, you can laugh them right out of the studio.
Wow, even NPR knows this is political.
exactly
The leaker should be found and prosecuted.
I love it!
Heh AP, Bush said he would release the NIE, without revealing sources and methods of the information gathered, which hs should not. Therefore, he is releasing the NIE not part of it. Get a fricking life. Oh, I forgot, you are liberals, therefore you do not have a clue of reality.
Is he talking about the terrorists or the Clintonistas? /s (kinda)
"He asserted that portions of the classified report that had been leaked were done so for political purposes, referring to the Nov. 7 midterm elections. "
Hmmmmm ... Remember this??

Following is the text of a memo written by a Democrat on the staff of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that suggests how to make the greatest gain off of intelligence data leading to the war against Iraq. The memo was obtained by Fox News.
I like that thought
That is my prediction, tried to post it on another thread but it was pulled for some reason. I bet they will also dredge up the 2002 NIE release in 2003 issue. Funny thing is...they are wrong...it was the Dems that requested release of the 2002 NIE document (Sen. Graham, D-FL) and Tenet declassified a 25 page portion of it in Oct 2002, right after it was completed, based on that request. It had nothing to do with Joe Wilson's article being published.
You beat me to it...
Fox just annouced it will be released sometime later today.

Thanks tiredoflaundry.
My very first thought on this. Did anyone expect the Islamo-nazis to stop fighting when we finally took the fight back to them? Anyone other than the John f'nKerrys or Dick Turbins of the world? They will continue to fight back until we make it clear to them, in an undeniable fashion, that we are going to crush them mercilessly unless they stop. Until then all half-steps or any backing away will only embolden them. To think otherwise is to ignore the lessons of every war ever fought.
