Rutgers ranked in new AP poll [Ohio State remains No. 1, followed by Auburn and USC]

No joke. Rutgers is ranked.

The Scarlet Knights, long a college football laughingstock, moved into The Associated Press Top 25 for the first time in 30 years on Sunday.

No. 23 Rutgers (4-0), led by tailback Ray Rice, the fourth-leading rusher in the nation, is off to its best start since 1980 after beating Howard 56-7 on Saturday.

"I'm not going to downplay it. It is significant considering where we started," Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said. "It shows we're making progress in the right direction."

The Scarlet Knights were one of three new teams at the bottom of the new media poll, which was mostly unchanged at the top.

Ohio State is still No. 1 with 59 of a possible 65 first-place votes. No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Southern California and No. 4 West Virginia each received two first-place votes.

Auburn had 1,513 points and USC had 1,491. The Tigers lead over the Trojans grew nines points from last week.

No. 5 is Florida, followed by Michigan, Texas, Louisville, LSU and Georgia. The only change in the Top 10 was No. 9 LSU flip-flopping with No. 10 Georgia.

I also went to bed knowing that Notre Dame was getting stomped by Michigan and that they could chalk up another loss this season.

Sir, that was Michigan State! The previous week the Irish were stomped by Michigan and they stayed stomped.

GO SCARLET KNIGHTS!

I've had Rutgers season tickets for the last fifteen years - along with a bunch of old college buddies and their families.

Boy, this season has been a long time coming. The stands were empty all these years, now we have to shove people out of our seats every week.

We even had Tony Soprano sitting a few rows behind us this week! Suddenly, the Knights are even bringing in celebrities.

Big test this Friday night. We'll see if we keep that elusive top 25 ranking for another week. I sure hope so!

That was one of the best games I've seen in a long time. I'm an LSU fan and I also hope Auburn delivers. BTW, they were robbed two years ago.

I would love to see a rematch.

TCU has the best shot of the two, and probably the best shot to beat a BCS team in a bowl. But the Mountain West's new crappy TV deal will go along way in making sure no one outside of the conference will see TCU play this season, all but killing their shot at busting the BCS.

Mizzou plays good D this year.

And they are getting plays from the offense.

Since they aren't trying to glorify Brad Smith this year, they have been able to take the shackles off....

The previous week the Irish were stomped by Michigan and they stayed stomped.

A small, insignificant bump in the road...

Looking forward to the game this weekend in God's country (TAMU vs tt) - I'll be there live and world-wide for the Saturday 2:30 central kick-off.

In my lifetime I never thought I would see the day when Rutgers would be ranked and scUM would not be ranked at all.

God they must feel low in Coral Gables right now. GOOD!
