Former vice presidential candidate John Edwards attended a corn roast for Congressman Ron Kind over the weekend, telling reporters he's thinking of running for president in 2008.
The former North Carolina senator who was John Kerry's running mate in 2004 said he's hesitant to say anything for sure.
"I'm seriously thinking about running for President, but I haven't made a final decision," he said Saturday night.
He told the crowd of about 700 the national minimum wage should be raised and laws should be changed to make it easier for unions to organize.
He joked about having sleepless nights worrying about whether Exxon was making enough money, and said he's tired of Republicans claiming the moral high ground.
"When we don't lead, there is no leadership," Edwards said. "When I grew up, America was the model. We were the light of the entire world. We weren't the country of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo."
Kind introduced Edwards as an honorary cheesehead. A polka band played before Edwards' speech began.
Edwards also said if he was president today, he would immediately remove 40,000 to 50,000 troops from Iraq.
Kind is running against Republican realtor Paul R. Nelson of Woodville.
Attorney General candidate Kathleen Falk also spoke at the corn roast.
He truly has his finger on the pulse of the nation.
Everywhere I go everyone I talk to says the same thing: "Why isn't it easier to unionize?"
What the USA needs - more trial lawyers...
LOL, please, what a phony. This empty suit has been running for president since he won that Senate seat in 1998. He was running for president again the day after Kerry blew it in '04.
I'm sure he'll receive donations from the dozen OB/GYN doctors he fleeced out of $ millions in North Carolina courtrooms.
Bring on the ambulance chaser. Too bad Vice President Cheney won't be running, otherwise he'd take Edwards to task in the debates, if Edwards would participate again.
If he'd consider a former gubernatorial seat, maybe he could get Jim McGreevy's ;-) (Sorry...couldn't resist ;-)
Mr. Edwards thinks he can turn back the clock? If so, he'd be the first person in the history of the world to do that.
God, this man has positively no perspective. I really do think he thinks we should be more understanding of our enemies.
Yikes.
Silky Pony for President?
Bwahahahaha, what's the punch line?!
watch over the next 20 years - he will be infected with this disease until he is dead.
I have wondered what would happen if Edwards had gotten the nomination. I still think Bush would have won but he would have had to go about it a different way.
I just have never been that impressed with John Edwards and I often think he was partly a media creation to create some spice in that race. It seemed that beyond the "two AMericans" speech in which he repeated non stop he was always to me unimpressive as a Canidate
I would be more likely to vote for that wart he had removed from his lip.
Does that cash register come w/the pony? If so, is there any backstory as to why on earth a pony has a cash register?
He's been running for President since the day after he was elected Senator

This man made a fortune bilking insurance companies out of millions. he spent 4 years in the Senate and two years campaigning for the Vice-presidency. He doesnt know squat about government, foreign policy, monetary budget making, and he wants to cut and run in Iraq.
he has no more business running for President than I do, but at least I know my limitations. He doesnt--obviously.
He can turn back the clock, and bring people back to life as well... we need this hoodini for president...
I believe the cash register is a prop, for a shot deliberately set up to be a slam on Edwards. Silky Pony is rather enamored of it, in other words.
Well I too am considering a presidential run, doesn't mean I'll actually GET one.
