Salon published an article today in which there former teammates of George Allen from the football team of the University of Virginia accuse him of using the "n-word" in college and of stuffing the severed head of a deer into the mailbox of a black person.
Three former college football teammates of Sen. George Allen say that the Virginia Republican repeatedly used an inflammatory racial epithet and demonstrated racist attitudes toward blacks during the early 1970s.Allen said he came to Virginia because he wanted to play football in a place where 'blacks knew their place,'" said Dr. Ken Shelton, a white radiologist in North Carolina who played tight end for the University of Virginia football team when Allen was quarterback. "He used the N-word on a regular basis back then.
The views of these three are highlighted throughout the article, and they are given a sympathetic hearing. But Salon's own article betrays the bias with which the piece was written.
Over the past week, Salon has interviewed 19 former teammates and college friends of Allen from the University of Virginia. In addition to the three who said Allen used the word "nigger," two others who were contacted said they remember being bothered by Allen's displaying the Confederate flag in college, but said they do not remember him acting in an overtly racist manner. Seven others said they did not know Allen well outside the football team, but do not remember Allen demonstrating any racist feelings. A separate seven teammates and friends said they knew Allen well and did not believe he held racist views. "I don't believe he was insensitive," said Paul Ryczek, who played center in Allen's year before joining the Atlanta Falcons. "He had no prejudices, biases or anything else."
So let's get the numbers straight: three former teammates--some who have contributed to Democrats--say that he racist while SEVEN say for sure that he's not racist. That means that more than twice as many people say definitively that he's not a racist than those that say that he is one. Regardless, the views of the three are given much more weight than the views of the seven.
Something doesn't seem quite right with that, does it? This story has all the credibility of a Dan Rather report on Bush's National Guard service.
Ok guys, if anyone in this thread runs a Blog or has access to anyone with the ability to impact media 'spin' of this event, here are a couple things to investigate.
1. Dr. Ken Shelton is VERY political and has two "pet" left wing issues that would make him a Democrat...the environment and the anti-smoking campaign. See his website www.tobaccofreeforlife.org
2. He was also very involved in a wacko environmental group called Friends of the Falls where he apparently dealt directly with then North Carolina Democratic Governor Jim Hunt.
3. Although I did not find any direct donations to the Democratic Party, I would BET that someone who took the time could display a link. This Shelton guy needs to be "outed" as a partisan with an axe to grind, thus his info cannot be trusted.
I'm on it, and will be hitting it pretty hard tonight. There's a strong core of Virgina bloggers out there. We got smoked by macaca. But part of this you're seeing is that we've hit them back between the eyes and they're in full scale panic mode.
FReepmail me with whatever info you have.
Thanks.
Now I see that Allen website has hinted at Shelton's motives...
By the way, for those interested...this may be dated info, but...

The RATS, are losing and they are getting desperate, now its smear time.
You are welcome.
Your stay was longer than I thought it would be.
Yes, they smell defeat, but Webb's campaign is wholly mounted on destroying George Allen with vicious lies and it's not going to work.
People forget that Allen has served VA superbly as both governor and senator.
..yeah, the old Mark Furman tactic...
I am beginning to see signs that the Dems really fear Allen and will do anything to torpedo him...
The Dems are using Webb's campaign to smear Allen prior to 2008. Perhaps Webb is really just a fall guy.
The "Giuliani liberals" here on Freerepublic do more smearing of Allen than the marxists over at DU.
Thanks. I'll have to pay closer attention to the posters.
