Clinton, bin Laden, Wag The Dog and Fox News

After reading parts of the FoxNews Sunday transcript of the interview between Wallace and Clinton, something stuck out to me.

Clinton keeps claiming that 'right wing conservatives' were constantly complaining that he was too obsessed with bin Laden. I have mentioned previous that I have no memories of that happening. What I do remember is conservatives in general complaining about his obsession with Monica.

But, getting back to that claim that conservatives were complaining that Clinton was too obsessed with bin Laden.

After watching the rant, oops, interview, Clinton slipped up. He showed his cards by uttering three little words: wag the dog.

It was like a light bulb going off in my head.

Now it made sense. Clinton is once again 'mixing' historical events to conform to what he wants the world to remember.

Conservatives did use the wag the dog reference numerous times, not in reference to bin Laden, but in reference to Clinton's massive bombardment of Serbia, which had absolutely nothing to do with bin Laden.

Clinton, in the interview basically says, and I paraphrase:

conservatives were complaining that I was obsessed with bin Laden, you know the wag the dog references.

THAT is the statement that shows that either Clinton is having memory problems and mixing up events, or is lying.

All the wag the dog references in the 90's had nothing to do with bin Laden, but had everything to do with Serbia and Milosevic, as far as my meager memory serves. I may be wrong, and I may be unaware of statements to the contrary but as far as I can remember, all those references were regarding Milosevic and Serbia.

Claiming that 'right wing conservatives' were complaining that Clinton was obsessed with bin Laden is an outright lie. But to try and prove it by using the wag the dog reference was a stupid move on his part and illuminated his lack of facts to back it up. And in my view, invalidated the rest of the rant, er interview.

Well, should I get my tin foil or does any of my pathetic little thoughts make any sense? Has my memory of these events failed me?? In the order in which you ask:
  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. Yes

Bottom line, Clinton is stating he wanted to do more(and therefore acknowledges more needed to be done I.E. be far more aggressive)

But Clinton states he was prevented from doing the "more " he wanted because he got political resistant I.E. it would cost him personal political capital (poll numbers)

So it boil down to the Clinton acknowledges that a aggressive approach was call for (like Bush is doing) but it cost political capital (poll numbers... like it is costing Bush)...

So Billy the dif is Bush is will to take the political hit to do what right, poll be damed, that Bill would not

Nice! It sure look's like a pointer to some linchpin of his pysche. A need to be redeemed by WORK -- no train of ants in the night to help him with real work though. Yet he does have hordes of hornets willing to buzz about his "work". Nor has Eros whispered hints in his ear ...

Rather he is overindulgent to himself in the erotic. And all his "work" is imbued with that ethos of instant gratification.

It is Cerebus who be the final "wag the dog" for him, in and no out.

I'm confident you know this issue is a red flag being waved at many bulls.

"Wag the Dog arose because of the fact that Clinton bombed the aspirin factory the night before scheduled impeachment vote. The other bombing was in response Iraq's attempt on Geo. H.W. Bush's life when B41 was in Kuwait for a victory lap."

This Quote from magoo70804 (#17) sums it up pretty well, but in the interests of history, there is more.

Clinton took the WH Press Corps on a junket to Sea Island or some such place on the night of the "Aspirin Factory" and "Terror Training Camp" bombings. For amusement, the corps was treated with a screening of "Wag the Dog" which was just out or about to come out. During the feature, the corps was called together for a quick press conference which announced the bombings.

To me, the implication was that, to preclude the press from asserting this incident as a "Wag the Dog" scenario and pooh-pooh it as a cheap trick, Clinton was able to argue, he wouldn't have been so stupid as to believe the press would fall for this. IMHO, they drank this koolaid.

In my mind's eye, I can easily imagine somebody asking, "Do you think we'd pull something like this while you were watching this movie?"

Clinton links these ideas because he dreamed them up or was present when they were, I speculate.

If some one else has remembered this, forgive me. I couldn't spare the time to check all the other posts.
