No, his ministry of truth has not won out with me, but has with millions of Americans who repeatedly state that Bush was "given" a massive Government surplus and the best economy in a long time of recorded history, only to turn around and immediately destroy it. My comment about wishing the collapse would have happened while Toon was in office did not adequately address the stock market which if I remember correctly started to really accelerate on its way down in March 2000. The point I was really trying to make it that the economy and stock market performance during the Toon years was built on a house of cards - new IPOs were being chased by Billions of venture capital dollars and there was no hope of these companies every producing a profit. Stock analysts were trying to tell everyone that would listen that the old measurement of which stocks to invest in were meaningless and this was to be an entirely new paradigm. I never bought into that and refused to invest $1 in any of those Internet startups that could never make a profit. The only profits they made were for the owners and employees that were being handed stock in their company. I was there (inside a company that birthed one of the biggest failures of the 1990's. Perhaps there was no fraud involved like Worldcom and Enron and many others, but the business plan NEVER HAD A CHANCE. But the investors were lining up with bushel baskets of cash in order to get a hold of one of the great new companies spawned by the corrupt Toon administration.
You know, no one ever connects the great Clinton surpluses with the capital gains taxes being paid on bubble stock gains. Real people paid real taxes on nothing but phony gains.
Of course I am jesting,as a matter of fact I have spent many a time with friends in Lounges(not recently of course)but I was almost always the peacemaker. Now if we are talking about Miami Dolphin Football games that is where I could have gotten into a lot of trouble with Jets,Bills,Steeler,Patriots and Colts fans. we had many verbal battles, and we won most of them. I have vivid memories, but not much of physical stuff because I value my life. LOL!
Good prediction... I can smell it coming already.
OK, I saw that you had a post pulled (?!?) and read the replies with stunned disbelief at what you had posted or at what Byron York had said. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what you would have said or done or what from the York piece would warrant your post being pulled.
This makes sense now. All is back to being right with the world...
I didn't even know the post was pulled, glad it was....even though it was an honest mistake on my part, it caused a lot of confusion and consternation. Taught me a lesson to be a little more careful in the future. BTW: how would I know my post was pulled...I did't get a message from admin mod or anything. If admin mod could freepmail me about this I would appreciate it. Thanks.
I"m pretty sure we can nail that one down as yet another lie.
Never underestimate the stupidity of a long time Mississippi Democrat politician who turned Republican only to save his own skin.
Trent is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, nor the most loyal or reliable. If the Clintonista's are specifically mentioning Trent Lott as having said Clinton was obsessed with Osama I would bet that they have the sound bite and date.
We need to find our own examples, not count on arguing about theirs. Clinton made a sweeping statement about "all the right wingers" and several other similar broad brush attacks. We simply need to point to prominent examples where he is wrong, not try to discredit his anecdotes that he puts up to prove he's right.
FR-TV .... a network whose time has come ;)
OK, assume such a network were launched. Other than news and talking heads, what would we want on? Ozzie and Harriet reruns or Ozzie Osbourne's reality show? Reruns of JAG or a new series based on what was actually in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan books?
Or, more seriously, how about educational stuff? How about real history, based on what happened, not what PC prejudices tell us we should say happened?
Now, moving further from fantasy, what's to stop this community from starting to actually produce things that we would actually like to see if such a network existed? Start with documentaries made on hand held video cameras about real events that the drive by media aren't covering, such as the Code Pink harassment of wounded soldiers at Walter Reed. Or a historical retrospective on John Kerry's real record. And we don't have to wait for a mega network to launch. There are plenty of outlets for such material, starting with HotAir.
I actually think this is the next step for conservative activism on the net. Video podcasts of alternative news stories that the DBM refuses to cover. We've all seen how things have hit You Tube or some other net outlet and become phenomenon that the DBM then takes notice of. We need to start doing this in an organized fashion. What better place to start than here?
That is one very important document. Thank you.
Who have you pinged on this? Certainly Brit and Rush?
Echoing and adding to Alas Babylon!'s comment, Clarke was in charge of counter terrorism and specifically with countering Al Qaeda for nearly a decade and he was the primary architect of the failure that led to 9/11.
It's real simple. He failed at his job.
The definition of insanity is often said to be doing the same thing over and over again and expecting to get a different result. Sometimes you just have to change directions. With Clarke in place that wasn't going to happen. Similar logic was applied to not inviting Powell and Armitage back for the second term. Their job was to fix the State Department and make it rerpresent the interests of the United States to the rest of the world and not the other way around.
That's the core of the fight today. The Democrats want to go back to the "good old days" where we try to play nice with the terrorists and treat everthing like a genteel legal dispute. Bush and company have chosen to go another way.
To paraphrase Ron White "If you come to the US and kill somebody, we will kill you back! That's our policy!"
Hello, Rodguy! I didnt have a chance to say hi, yesterday..
Richard Clarke technically didnt lose his job, he was just offered a position eleswhere. Cyber security or something like that. Regardless, a lot of 911 can put on his shoulders. Were his hands tied? Maybe, but if he saw a threat he should have handled it. These people have shown no problem going to the press behind W's back, Clarke should have done it to Bubba. I once heard Rush on a rant about Jimmy Carter being the worst president ever. I disagree-Clinton was the worst..
In fact, I intend to begin my own Podcasts on my Blog although I don't have the faintest idea where to start. Except I did get an IPOD for my recent birthday and that was part of my plan.
Count me in to help.
Wallace will be black listed. No more interviews for him.
Fox News will be black listed. No more interviews for them.
All Fox related products will be blacklisted. No more promotions, invitations, announcements, premieres, etc. for anyone in any way associated with Fox.
They are all unpeople.
Russert will get the Pulitzer along with the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award for his brave refusal to bow to the right wing fascists and his continuing commitment to ask only nice (previously approved) questions of King of the World, (secular) Saint Bill the First.
I gather that he is part of the liberal wing of the Episcopal Church. If you follow the religious threads on FR you'll know what that entails, particularly the very basic splits in the last few years. You know, things like "god is optional" (the lower case "g" is not accidental).
I went through this same type of "liberalization" of a Christian church in my youth when my family briefly attended the Congregational Church in our town. My sister asked the pastor there about the concept of the Trinity, which she was having problems with. His reply was "don't worry, god is only a myth, anyway." We went back to the Baptists soon thereafter. That Congregational pastor later went on to head the World Council of Churches and oversaw giving church money to the Communist rebels in Angola. We weren't surprised to learn that little bit of information.
I know the actor/character/clip you mean, but you do know that the scene with that guy wasn't in the original version of Star Wars? It got cut entirely before release and you never saw Jabba in what is now known as Episode IV. Lucas kept everything, since he owned it, and used that as his "plate" to add in the new CG Jabba with the existing footage of others.
As to your comparison of that original Jabba to Clarke, physically, I agree, but Jabba was much more competent and had the ruthlessness we only wish Clarke had.
Danforth seems to feel that his beliefs are the TRUE beliefs and no one else is entitled to their own beliefs if they differ with his interpretations.
If that's their plan I think they've miscalculated, big time. Clinton's melt down over this question can only focus the spotlight on their failures, not obscure them. They're only hope is to make the very questions off limits. That might have worked before new media. It won't work today. On top of that there's still way too much time for simple fact checking to blow this out of the water.
I'm beginning to like MaestroLC's analogy more and more that this is Bubba's 'Tom Cruise' moment from his post #607. Tom clearly intended something else to come out of that "spontaneous" little performance and it backfired in a big way. I think the same will happen with this.
ABC 9/11 film controversy
ABC continues to be under tremendous pressure to pull its controversial movie about 9/11. Democrats say it unfairly places the blame for the rise of Al Qaeda on the Clinton administration. What is the truth? We'll give you our no spin take on it in the first hour of the Radio Factor.
No mention of Cohen, but this is the closest I can find to your description.
