The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for much of North Texas Thursday afternoon, hours after a line of storms dumped rain across parts of the area.
The watch, which covers Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Parker and about 40 other counties, is in effect until midnight Thursday.
Meteorologist Greg Patrick said isolated storms are expected to develop this afternoon along a line stretching from Abilene north to just east of Wichita Falls, and should move east around 40 mph. They could produce heavy winds and hail, and some tornadoes could develop as a result, primarily to the north of Dallas-Fort Worth.
<-Snip-> Patrick said humid, unstable air in place across the area could combine with the dry line and an upper-level storm system currently moving across Kansas and Oklahoma, creating favorable conditions for tornadoes to form. "The way it looks now, those ingredients are starting to come together," Mr. Patrick said.

Nothing on the radar yet except a little patch up by the red river @ 5:20. It might be an interesting evening.

Im on the southern end of the watch in Johnson Co, just south of Fort Worth.
If anything kicks up within sight I will post a current pic.
The clouds outside here do not look tornadic to me...usually they will be at 2 different levels and moving in 2 different directions. The humidity seems higher than earlier.
Wow, I just checked my indoor barometer and its at 29.4...the hand is pointing directly on rain.

After 30yrs in Ft Worth...give me Gainesville anyday! I don't drink any more so driving south of Denton is out of the question.

What did the Indians think of supercells and tornadoes. Teepee's probably didnt stand up too well, and there arent many caves in the DFW area.
Big hail and lightning was probably a problem too.
Glad to have a roof over my head and radar on the pc. Regardless of what they say if I see a tornado on the ground heading toward me and have time to drive out of its way I certainly would. (unless I had a shelter)

What's the diff? Indians thought the Gods were controlling things and probably doling out punishment. We have people think it's Global Warming punishing us for driving SUVs.

And what DID the indians call "golfball size" or "quarter size" hail?? "Squirrel poop size hail?" "pecan nut size hail?"
Wonder if the indian kids ran out in delight and licked all the "ice treats" like dogs do?

I was sleeping this afternoon and right before I woke, I dreamed of a funnel cloud.
A friend and I were walking down a street, which was here in Houston and identifiable to me as being in a residential area where I lived a long time ago. There was some pattern in the sky that we were looking up at, through the tall trees.
While she was looking up that way, we were walking towards a clearer area, where we could see this thing better (being a dream, it was something nonsensical, a map and a drawing, not really sky).
I turned to look the opposite direction (west) and there was a funnel cloud coming down out of a clear sky, just big as day. I watched it for a minute, not scared, then it appeared to touch down behind the trees and started coming towards me.
I pushed my friend down on the ground and I was flattened on the ground, trying to make myself small, when I felt the wind come up. The funnel was right above me and I woke up!
It's looking okay so far.
Oddly enough my daughter also dreamed of a tornado last night, her mother woke her up for school as it was about to get her.
I see they took the DFW area out of the tornado watch, leaving only the red river counties to the NE.
All clear in my hood.
