Nearly two of every three Colorado voters think illegal immigrants should be allowed to become U.S. citizens if they pay taxes, learn English and meet other requirements, according to a new Rocky Mountain News/CBS 4 poll.
Only 15 percent of those polled favor mass deportations.
"People want to be tough but fair," said pollster Lori Weigel. "It's like many issues. You tend to hear from extremes on both ends. Clearly, this data indicate that there's a silent majority that is supportive of a more middle-ground approach."

The fence will go along way to helping ICE. It's rather simple and inexpensive. As long as the mehican gov't does little to help, the fence is a must. I will support no plan that does not include sealing the border. Politicians words mean nothing in this arena. If they did, we'd be enforcing the laws as they stand now --and the problem would be a much more manageable one.
When posting is so difficult to provide tonality -- I was buttressing you, not 'dissing you.
I wanted to enhance your post -- sorry if I wasn't clear.
Maybe?
And it amazes me the knee jerk animus towards America and American taxpayers some have on FR (you).
If the alternative was indeed "mass deportation" then clearly this poll was concocted by, and its results publicized by, the radical anti-American faction led by the likes of teddy kennedy.
"...not punitively businesses that do such good things such as buildshelter or grow food."
Businesses who build "shelter" = Construction = big money business!
Same for agriculture for the most part is no longer the little Ma and Pa farm.
Of course you knew that.
The jobs in construction and farming that are going to illegals are the same jobs my husband, brothers, father, uncles did when they were young to earn money and learn skills.
These jobs are no longer available to legal workers who want them. Even if you could get hired you better speak spanish and you pretty much could count on being forced out when Jose's brother wants your job.
You will never seal the border completely unless you wish a soviet style neo-berlin wall.
A guest worker program is much easier to enforce and frees up resources to go after the real bad guys and also I wish to follow the Reagan model of wishing to tear down walls and not building them.
They have already shown that they have NO respect for our laws so there's no telling where they will stop, but you think we should give them a free pass on being here illegally.
How many laws are you going to allow them to break? Just the ones they don't like?
Where did I state they should become citizens?
This would be comical if it were not so tragic. You are feeding on yourselves. It is a pity.
Yeah the vast majority show their disrespect by taking jobs such as cleaning toilets or tarring a roof in 100 degree heat.

Thanks. Mine was a friendly reply, I was actually clarifying your clarification..for Dane's benefit! You are right about tonality..LOL!
There will not be any "back taxes" paid by illegal aliens. They don't make enough to pay any. We will be paying them back taxes in the form of the income tax credit. It's a total rip off scam, and we are going to get screwed again!
bump!
Total made up hyperbole, akin to democrats saying that Republicans want to starve children.
Not true. The modern double fencing with its sensors and access roads between work just fine. they work where they are in use today.
A guest worker program may have benefits. But no way are conservatives going to support ANY worker plan until the border is sealed. No more bullshit. No more mexicanization of the SW.
Once again, do you not want control over when and who can come over the border? It has nothing to do with amnesty or worker programs or back taxes. It has to do with the ability to control the border.
Fence first. Period. Back taxes, worker programs and deportations can be worked out while the fence is being built.
