The Holy Father has NOTHING to apologize for in this fracas.
The Islamic response to the pope's message is emblematic of Islam's intolerance and resort to violence as a way of discussing questions of substance.
They are more nihilists than anything else.

Is the Vatican naive? They can't calm the militant Muslims except by disappearing from the Earth. The Muslims want to be mad, they're looking for an excuse to be mad, they want to feel justified in their upcoming wholesale murder of Catholics, which has already started in Somalia.
To: Borges
There is no such reassessment or contrition forthcoming from Islam. Don't hold your breath waiting for Muslim clerics to denounce forced conversions to Islam or jihad.

Pope Julius II was known as the "Warrior Pope". Maybe Pope Benedict will be the next one.

"We must avoid making any link between Islam, which is a great, respected and respectable religion, and radical Islamism, which is a totally different activity and one of a political nature," Chirac added.
O'rly? I can't tell the difference. Islam makes no distinction. Why does Chirac?

The Vatican has instructed its envoys in Muslim countries to explain Pope Benedict's words on Islam.
Benedict's new Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, said the Holy See's nuncios (ambassadors) in Muslim countries would be visiting government and religious leaders.
Why bother?
The non Muslim world has seen their reaction as affirmation of their penchant for violence, death and destruction.

The Vatican has instructed its envoys in Muslim countries to explain Pope Benedict's words on Islam. As an example: "My friends! Please! The Holy Father's words must be properly understood, so there can be so confusion! The Holy Father believes in his heart that you are Devil worshipping fanatics who view violence as central to your so-called religion. Thank you."

A speech by Pope Benedict last Tuesday was seen as portraying Islam as a religion tainted by violence, causing dismay among Muslim states where some religious leaders called it the start of a new Christian crusade against Islam. So they demonstrated their outrage at being called violent by erupting in violence all over the world?
OK - I'm beginning to change my opinion of Muslims. Perhaps it's just that they're a bunch of retards.
Shalom.

If Jesus is Christ then Mohhamad is a fraud. They really don't need more of an excuse than that to declare war on Christianity.

"We shall break the cross and spill the wine ... God will (help) Muslims to conquer Rome ... (May) God enable us to slit their throats, and make their money and descendants the bounty of the mujahideen," said the statement, posted on Sunday on an Internet site often used by al Qaeda and other militant groups. That is what Mohammed did and Muslims have been doing for 1400 years. It is simply the heart of Islam.

Come now come now.
Whatever any of us think here on FR this morning about Islamic MEN and their dark deeds, at least we can grant that their womenfolk, Islamic WOMEN have a heart!!
Maybe they can be a moderating force on their men who seem to be so totally against helping others and having pity on the weak in our society....Whatya' say we give 'em a chance to moderate their men!!??
