I believe that McCain is using this Geneva Conventions kerfuffle to keep his POW past on the front burner.

I believe you are BINGO!

You know what I'd like to see ANY Republican say? How about this:

"It's sad to see that SOME political candidates need to use their honorable claim to fame as a former POW to gain political points. When this war on terror is like no other and I'd sure like an honorable Republican who served his country so bravely continue with that honor by pushing for sane rules of engagement regarding detainee interrogation rather than political expediency that would get this Republican former POW elected."

How about some Republican pundit get on the TV and say that? Right out in the open and everything...lay it on the line, let the people know where McCain is coming from. Half the people in this country aren't even aware of McPain's past.

George Allen clearly won on the "likeability" scale. Timmy even outdid Webb as the most unlikeable.

"Allegations in Keathing 5 were not phoney. McCain was just as culpable as John Glenn, but of course St. Glenn and the 3 others involved were all Dems in a Dem controlled body so McCain enjoyed the benefit of Dems running cover for him. In case you meant this was not a criminal case, that is true, and thus there were no criminal convictions, and really no formal hassles due to good ole boys network."

Of coursse you understand that your comment makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER! McCainn was a staunch pubbie back then and would get NO cover from the dems. I lived in AZ at the time and followed it closely.

There were no criminal charges to be convicted of.

The way he talks...he probably respects the terrorists MORE than he does Bush and Cheney...because the terrorists are "fighting" and Bush and Cheney worked NOT to fight.

It is a dem talking point...and they are REALLY using it now...which is Rahm Emmanuel's tactic.

" Hadley is doing a great job of describing what's going on here, btw."

Hadley was terrific .
The media and the Democrats have completely misrepresented the President's position.
Even Wolf Blitzer didn't seem to grasp the difference.
And Hadley made Powell look like a fool . Either Powell got suckered by McCain or he didn't do his homework.
Mort Kondracke was astounded on Friday- he said he had contacted McCain's office and McC's staffers told him that McC was unaware of exactly which techniques the US uses.
But, whatever they are-he's against them.
The WH is not doing away with the Geneva Convention- they just want clarification of Article 3, part c.
According to the Europeans- not having a private toilet is an outrage against human dignity and violates Article 3 .
Apparently McCain and Powell and Graham and the Democrats are now bathroom monitors for Al Queda.
They'll probably demand we provide Charmin instead of the generic.

He was not convicted and the allegation was phoney to begin with.

I don't recall the allegations being phony at all.  The briber (to McCain's bribee), Charles Keating, publicly said that he thought he was giving them a bribe in exchange for them intervening with regulators, which they all did.  McCain also did very much the same sort of things that Congressman Ney just pleaded guilty to doing. McCain's excuse was that they were all idiots and just didn't realize it was a bribe.

They got away with it because of that "brilliant" defense.  </sarcasm>

"Perot had a LOT of money. McCain does not. He can't finance a 3rd party campaign."

No, but Soros does. And I firmly believe that McQueeg would hook up with him if the price is right.

You might call me a "Bushbot" and you might be right, but that aside, I recognize that the Republican party tolerates an infinitely greater degree of dissension than the Dhimmicrat party does (see LIEberman). But what McQueeg does is damage the entire party on the eve of an election, which is indefensible and disgusting. What he did hurts the chances for every Repub who is struggling to win (or hold onto) his office against Dhimmicrats who promise to destroy us.

McQueeg seems to think that "triangulation" means setting a fire in every room of the house so that everyone will have to follow after him as he runs out the door. He takes great pride in being a "thorn in the side" (and a pain in the a$$) to his so-called fellows.

He disgusts me and represents the exception to my unity rule - I will not ever vote for this person - under any circumstance!

Believe it or not...when McCain said that Bush wants to "modify" the GC...STEPHY actually interrupted him to correct him, telling him the the White House doesn't want to modify or change..they want to "clarify" (as you say)..

BUT, when McCain started talking again, after the interruption, he used the word modify AGAIN...just ignored Stephy.

But if Richard replaced Chris Wallace on FNS, and he interviews the 2008 candidates including, Rudolph Giuiliani, how would he ever stop himself from saying, "Tutti Frutti, all over 'Rudy'... A-wop-bop-a-loo-lop a-lop bam boo."

Number one requisite for a Republican president;
They can NOT appear to waffle. They MUST stuff feel-good politically correct arguments right back down the throat of the libs and their enabling media.

Romney's got it, Rudy's got it. McCain may have it. My favorite, George Allen doesn't have it.
