How Many Divisions Does The NY Times Have? Grey Lady Demands Apology From Pope

In a surreal clash of the sacred and the profane, the New York Times - that citadel of secularism - has declared in its editorial of this morning that Pope Benedict "needs to offer a deep and persuasive apology," for having quoted a 14th century Christian emperor who said:

“Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”

The Times is only being fair and balanced, I suppose. After all, hardly a week goes by that you can't pick up the paper and read an editorial condemning this or that mullah, imam or ayatollah for the latest fatwa ordering the death of such-and-such infidel or the destruction of entire countries found to be an annoyance. Or not.

But the Times suddenly gets religion, if they'll excuse the expresssion, when it comes to the Pope. Oh well. At least there's one hopeful sign in all this. It was of course Stalin who dismissively asked how many divisions the Pope had. By its editorial according great weight to the words of the Pontiff, the Times would appear to be breaking with Uncle Joe. Might this be the start of a hopeful trend?

Liberals hate Christianity. Now you understand why The New York Times demands the Pope apologize for understanding what's really motivating the Religion Of Peace. TM

Hmm. Martin Luther as an elite? John Calvin? Are they elites as they were able to read- yes. Are they elites as they studied theology -yes. But did they control property on behalf of others?

BTW seminary student Joseph Ratzinger's first assignment was to study Martin Luther.

I think that the little told story is the abuse that happens to black Muslims in Africa at the hands of Arab Muslims.

I have lived in a small town that has many Christian denominations and Muslims as well. No one goes after anyone.

If anything, what the Pope has to say reflects what Christians across the globe know to be true. The Koran can be used to incite violence if the Muslim so chooses just as the bible was used by the KKK in America. Remember, Christians themselves brought them down.

Europeans eleites tolerate diversity by trying to delete faith and empowering government.

Americans allow diversity by policing their own faith and keeping the government out as much as possible.

To live freely, each faith must police itself.

Did the Pope "take ownership" of the quote

There is a link to the full text on thread.

And, imo, yes, he has taken ownership of the truth that is in the snipped quote.

VIVA PAPA!!

My point is, he said what he said. Why should I wade in? What's the point? The last time he said something I got trashed, so he said what he said. I have been led to believe that the media has fueled the fire by taking him out of context. Gee, I am so shocked. /s.

The Muslims are so bright that they have bombed a Greek Orthodox church and an Anglican one. Last I looked neither one of those are Catholic. With this kind of ignorance I see no point.

I think it's more that it's too terrible for them to look at and so they don't. It's the 1930s all over again.

Oh yeah, Big Time. Even Levin went off on the Pope. Screw it. It's the fate of being both Republican and Roman Catholic. I can deal with it.
