Bradys Send Letter to Illinois Gubernatorial Candidate Topinka
US Newswire Press Release ^ | 9/14/06 | Jim & Sarah Brady

Posted on 09/15/2006 10:31:23 AM PDT by kiriath_jearim

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Illinois native Jim and Sarah Brady today sent the following letter to Illinois Gubernatorial candidate Judy Baar Topinka:

Dear Ms. Topinka,

We heard about your comments from last week regarding assault weapons: "I'm the sword of justice... We will take him out with my little rolling pin known as the assault weapon. I will prove to him, indeed, it is an assault weapon." Jim and I pride ourselves in having decent senses of humor, but we didn't find your remarks funny. We now understand that you have been asked to apologize and that you are unwilling. We are writing to plead with you to do so, because it's the right thing to do.

Ms. Topinka, we respect that we are on opposite sides of the policy debate about whether we should have sensible gun laws in America. While we disagree with your extreme views on the subject, we acknowledge that you have the right in this country to those views. But we should always try to avoid causing others additional emotional pain in a time of great personal distress.

There are Illinois parents of Illinois children who have been lost to assault weapon violence who were deeply, deeply offended at your remark. We respectfully urge you to show the people of Illinois that you feel and care about their pain by issuing an apology. No one will hold it against you if you apologize. It is quite simply the right thing to do.

Sincerely, Jim and Sarah Brady

Jim Brady said that new Kill Bush movie might incite people to act. Has he forgotten about the moveon.org filth that's out there?

Ah, another pair of permanent victims.

Anyone who utters a word that such victims find insensitive must come and bow at their alter of political correctness with an "apology."

Screw these people.

No one will hold it against you if you apologize The media will have a feeding frenzy. Blogojevich is gonna lose anyway. Every other commercial on local tv is an attack ad on Topinka.

So... the Bradys believe whether or not someone apologizes will change anything? I can just hear criminals thinking to themselves, "ohhh I may not want to commit a crime with an assault rifle because someone's feelings may get hurt."

Jim Brady is a permanent victim. But I don't see what Judy Topinka's remarks have to do with the Bradys.

No, you don't respect her position. This letter proves it. And laws are for people, not guns. But if you want a sensible "gun law", there's one in the US Constitution. I think it's in the Bill of Rights. 2nd amendment I believe.

WTF does Topinka's comment have to do with the Bradys anyway? Puhlease! Apologize? Hell no! There is nothing to apologize for. This is just retarded. Burn that letter.

I seriously doubt that many, if any Illinois residents have been injured with an actual assault weapon. Topinka calling her rolling pin an assault weapon is just as accurate and valid as Sarah Brady and the other gun grabbers calling just about any semi-automatic gun an assault weapon.

Their feelings are hurt. Are Jim and Sarah Brady Muslim?

You'd be surprised at how much a simple apology can mean to victims everywhere!

So, lets see what laws the anti-gunners have tried to force on us without the NRA stopping them.

1961. We don't want to take your guns away, we only want to register handguns. Long guns will not be affected.

1964. We don't want to take your guns away. We only want to register all of them!

1968. We don't want to take your sporting guns away. We ONLY want to register them and ban ONLY the import of foreign saturday night specials and five shot WWII military bolt action rifles!

1968 "Today we make America safe by taking the guns out of the hands of criminals!"...LBJ when he signed the 1968 gun control act into law.

1971. We don't want to take your sporting guns away, we ONLY want to ban saturday night specials.

1976. We don't want to take your long guns away. We ONLY want to ban all handguns!

(From the origional Handgun Control Inc group)...."We only want to control handguns. Long guns will not be affected."

1981. The NRA is a rifle organization! They should give up their handguns! And they can keep their rifles!

1989. We don't want to ban your hunting rifles and shotguns. We ONLY want to ban handguns AND Assault rifles and shotguns.

We ONLY want to ban assault rifles and shotguns AND all fifty cal. rifles and handguns!

I could go into more detail but that is plenty. Thankfully the NRA has been a lightning rod for such claims.

For those who are not NRA members do you really think you personaly have the clout to sway congress and hold off an organized attempt by the Brady bunch and others? Can you come up with enough money to buy air time to counter the false claims of George Sorios and his billions?

If not YOU NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF THE NRA!

I think that Topinka should write back and maybe include the following (or something to the effect):

"Please don't plead, it makes you sound needy."

"I will apologize for the assault weapon comment after you apologize to all the victims of your gun control laws, apologize for parading your poor husband around and for using what happened to him to further your unconstitutional ambitions, when Michael Skakel apologizes for using his Ping/Calloway/what ever brand assault weapon to kill Martha Moxley and when Ted Kennedy apologizes for using his assault weapon station wagon to kill Mary Jo Kopechne."

"Your views on gun control are extreme, not mine. My views are in line with the Constitution and the founding fathers."

Too-pinka is an ultra RINO and only claimed to be "pro-gun" so she would win enough gullible Republicans to eek through the GOP primary with 37% of the vote.

My guess is that if Judas Too-pinka is elected in November and no longer "needs" to fool Republicans, she will happily apologize the Brady's and sign any piece of wacky anti-gun legislation that Mike Madigan wants.

Ahh, I didn't know that about her. Still, it would be nice to have even her say some of the things that I posted. That would really get the Brady's/libs fired up.

I can't understand why the RATs are so angry at Toopinka. It's like the RATs who can't stand Arnold. They're pissed off at a "Republican" who loyally does their bidding.

Toopinka is so liberal that she happily ACCEPTED the endorsement of "former" black panther-turned-gun grabber Bobby Rush in her last election. You know, ol' slave reparations Bobby, her kinda guy.

I'm sick of everyone being asked to apologize for something they have said just because someone doesn't like it! What happened to speaking your mind?!

Just because Jim Brady was in the wrong place at the wrong time doesn't make him and his idiot wife experts on gun laws.
