"We now understand that you have been asked to apologize and that you are unwilling. We are writing to plead with you to do so, because it's the right thing to do."
****
I'm sure heartbroken. /sarc
Ah, another pair of permanent victims.
Anyone who utters a word that such victims find insensitive must come and bow at their alter of political correctness with an "apology."
Screw these people.
So... the Bradys believe whether or not someone apologizes will change anything? I can just hear criminals thinking to themselves, "ohhh I may not want to commit a crime with an assault rifle because someone's feelings may get hurt."
No, you don't respect her position. This letter proves it. And laws are for people, not guns. But if you want a sensible "gun law", there's one in the US Constitution. I think it's in the Bill of Rights. 2nd amendment I believe.
WTF does Topinka's comment have to do with the Bradys anyway? Puhlease! Apologize? Hell no! There is nothing to apologize for. This is just retarded. Burn that letter.
I seriously doubt that many, if any Illinois residents have been injured with an actual assault weapon. Topinka calling her rolling pin an assault weapon is just as accurate and valid as Sarah Brady and the other gun grabbers calling just about any semi-automatic gun an assault weapon.
Their feelings are hurt. Are Jim and Sarah Brady Muslim?
Shut up, you horrible old woman. She should be in prison for exploiting her vegetable husband for money.
So, lets see what laws the anti-gunners have tried to force on us without the NRA stopping them.
1961. We don't want to take your guns away, we only want to register handguns. Long guns will not be affected.
1964. We don't want to take your guns away. We only want to register all of them!
1968. We don't want to take your sporting guns away. We ONLY want to register them and ban ONLY the import of foreign saturday night specials and five shot WWII military bolt action rifles!
1968 "Today we make America safe by taking the guns out of the hands of criminals!"...LBJ when he signed the 1968 gun control act into law.
1971. We don't want to take your sporting guns away, we ONLY want to ban saturday night specials.
1976. We don't want to take your long guns away. We ONLY want to ban all handguns!
(From the origional Handgun Control Inc group)...."We only want to control handguns. Long guns will not be affected."
1981. The NRA is a rifle organization! They should give up their handguns! And they can keep their rifles!
1989. We don't want to ban your hunting rifles and shotguns. We ONLY want to ban handguns AND Assault rifles and shotguns.
We ONLY want to ban assault rifles and shotguns AND all fifty cal. rifles and handguns!
I could go into more detail but that is plenty. Thankfully the NRA has been a lightning rod for such claims.
For those who are not NRA members do you really think you personaly have the clout to sway congress and hold off an organized attempt by the Brady bunch and others? Can you come up with enough money to buy air time to counter the false claims of George Sorios and his billions?
If not YOU NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF THE NRA!
I'm sick of everyone being asked to apologize for something they have said just because someone doesn't like it! What happened to speaking your mind?!
Just because Jim Brady was in the wrong place at the wrong time doesn't make him and his idiot wife experts on gun laws.
She's as anti-2nd as they come.
Do not vote for this woman.
L
I will have to hold my nose and vote for Topinka/Birkett now that I see she is endorsed by the NRA and ILSRA.
The 2nd Amendment is just too important for me vs. a write in for Stufflebeam.
Blagojevich calls Topinka NRA shill: But they say she's just 'OK,'
Scott Fornek
Sketching a likely general election theme, Gov. Blagojevich came out swinging Tuesday against GOP gubernatorial front-runner Judy Baar Topinka, accusing the state treasurer of being a shill for the National Rifle Association and the right wing.
"The NRA just gave her an A rating -- an A rating -- and if you get an A rating from the NRA, you're basically taking their talking points and doing their bidding," Blagojevich said. "And I would urge her to forget about the NRA, stop pandering to the right wing and join us and help us pass a ban on assault weapons."

Gun Ban on the Ballot?
Several members have contacted us about this.
A non-binding referendum will appear on ballots in Cook County
Liberal Cook County commissioners are looking to further erode gun rights not just for their constituants, they're trying to push the stalled Daley Semi-auto ban, HB 2414, or a similar bill onto Illinois citizens statewide. As they're county officials, and don't have legislative power over the whole state, this is what they've come up with: a referendum on the ballot, only in their county.
The referendum will read:
For the health and safety of children and the entire community, shall the State of Illinois enact a comprehensive ban on the manufacture, sale, delivery and possession of military-style assault weapons and .50 caliber rifles?
Who brought this referendum to the voters of Cook County?
This is the brainchild of Larry Suffredin, County Commissioner.
It is co-sponsored by Jerry Butler, Forrest Claypool, Earlean Collins, John Daley, Roberto Maldonado, Mike Quigley, Deborah Sims, and Bobbie Steele.
Note that the candidates for Cook County Board President differ on this issue: Gun-grabber Todd Stroger has attacked his opponent, Tony Peraica, for not supporting this gun ban referendum.
The Cook County Board voted on the inclusion of the referendum in July.
