Childless Russian families to pay taxes for their social inaction
Pravda ^ | Sept. 15 | Dmitry Sudakov

Posted on 09/15/2006 6:26:23 AM PDT by Bushwacker777

"Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Health Protection, Nikolai Gerasimenko, suggested the introduction of childlessness tax to improve the demographic situation in Russia.

“It is about time we should think about childlessness tax. If you do not want to think about your social duty for your fatherland than you will have to pay for it,” Gerasimenko said. The official added that State Duma deputies were currently considering the issue about the introduction of such a tax in Russia. As soon as deputies think the idea through, the law-makers will develop an adequate document on the matter. "

...will be punished for not having children will result in a poisonous environment for the children that result.

That's a good point. And what if you have a disease that can be passed on to your children? I won't get into the subject of people that go ahead and have kids even though they may be passing on a death sentence,.

I'm waiting for someone to pop on and point out that we should enact a similar policy here...

That sounds like remnants of the grand days of the USSR. The Soviets had some orphanages as state models. Children could be raised purely in the interest of the party and the children would not inherit unwanted class values from their parents.

Now that the party isn't in control the experiment is finished and their is nothing left but the children.

I think many Russian woman choose to have multiple abortions rather than bear children with alcoholic men and live in tiny decrepit houses while working to support the entire family. At least that is what I observed in a remote area of Russia.

Not to mention the horrible state neglect of 600,000 children abandoned by parents or taken from alcoholics to be raised like wolves in stark institutions. Been there, seen them.

To quote Natasha, my interpreter on a two-week junket in 1992, "Why bring forth children to be beggars?" (parenthetically, some of the most viscious KGB thugs were Ukrainians who'd been orphaned by Stalin's secret holocaust of 8-10 million "kulaks.")

Why not?

I also propose that if there is a war (and a draft is needed) we go to a more fair system and draft one adult male from every family (regardless of age) and not put the burden of sacrifice on families that DO have more than one or two kids.

This country does essentially the same thing through personal exemptions and child tax credits.

If your income is in a certain range, you also get a "refund" of additional child tax "credits" as well as a huge increase Earned Income Tax "Credit".

That's a good point.

Thank you. I wish I had written it better.

I won't get into the subject of people that go ahead and have kids even though they may be passing on a death sentence.

There are degrees to that - it isn't black and white.

My grandfather fathered my dad while he was dying at a young age of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. His uncle had died of the same thing and his uncle's son, his first cousin, died of it as well.

For all he knew he was fathering a child he would never know, who would die at the age of 27 like himself.

My father dodged the bullet, had children himself and is now a doting grandfather.

My grandfather's sister vocally criticized him at the time. I'm glad no one's ever listened to her.

For what ever reason there are a surprising number of children born to Russian parents that attend a Colorado Charter school with my kids. Odd that once a Russian gets out of Russia they seem quite able to reproduce. They seem like very decent people, interested in educating their kids and melting into our culture. True, the parents might not fully blend in, but their kids do.

Perhaps rather than using this as an excuse to grind your obvious ax with Bush, you should set about making Russia a worthy place to raise a child. In fact, perhaps you should consider moving there.

The Russian way is better than throwing open the borders to people with a different culture, and to those from countries with a thriving, flourishing throat-slitting culture.
Close the xxxxxxxxxx borders and slash taxes to encourage normal people to have normal children.

Actually...it is far different. A punitive tax for not having children...that is passed as law and levied as such...is much different that a credit for recognizing that it costs more of your disposable income if you have a larger family.

The end result may be the same (ie. childless families having a smaller portion of their disposable income availablel to them)..but the path in getting there is much, much less onerous and overbearing IMHO.

In addition, here, we are on a path that will lead away from all of that, hopefully to a federral consumption or usery tax, while it appears tat Russia is considering a system that leads further down the path of a heavier and heavier governmental tax burden.

But all of this, is just my opinion.

Yes, of course, Fairness Uber Alles. Are you sure you're on the right board?

I propose people have the freedom to procreate or not, and the freedom to join the military or not.

I had the same thought...sounds just like Hitlery. "The village must rule...the village WILL rule and you either must get in line with that or pay a price."

Aside from your ridiculous comment re Bush...

“It is about time we should think about childlessness tax

That should give the dems some ideas, if only they could square that with their pro abortion policies.

Maybe they can keep up the pro abortion push, and collect large revenues from the consequences! - Orwell would spin.
