Bush to hold morning news conference
Associated Press
WASHINGTON - President Bush faced questions Friday about sharp divisions among Republicans about the war on terrorism and disputes over his proposed strategies for interrogating and trying enemy combatants.
Bush was to hold a late-morning news conference in the Rose Garden.
The session came one day after rebellious Republicans led the Senate Armed Services Committee in rejecting Bush's proposal for interrogating and prosecuting terrorism suspects. The dissident group, led by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Bush's approach would jeopardize the safety of U.S. troops.
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell joined with McCain's group. Powell said Bush's proposal to redefine the Geneva Conventions would encourage the world to "doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism" and "put our own troops at risk."
It was Bush's first news conference since Aug. 21, when he said the Iraq war was "straining the psyche of our country" but that leaving now would be a disaster. Bush has made the struggle against terrorism and the war in Iraq the top issues in the November elections, hoping to persuade voters that Republicans are better than Democrats at protecting the country.
Forgive my ignorance, but, what are you thinking?
Protect a terrorist from abuse today...kill them.
I suggest sending a copy to your "sane" representatives, so they know where we stand. I also copied President Bush and VP Cheney.
Hey McStain, do two brutally tortured and murdered US soldiers meant anything to you?
Given we FINALLY got the authorization to send in our own strike teams into Pakistan, and not rely soley on Pakistani troops to actually do something about him (Which Mushareff would not do, other than to contain him)...
It may be possible that last night strike teams inserted and captured/killed OBL...
I wouldn't hold my breath that this is what he's going to talk about, but it is at least FINALLY something that can legitimately happen.
I kinda like tight tinfoil.
Ah, isn't that a matter of public record?
Warner is my senator (unfortunately!).
Maybe we've captured the allies of the terrorists in the U.S. Senate?
The intent of Common Article III appears to be based on each individual signers interpretation of what might be out of the norm for detainee interogation. It begs to be interpreted, and this is all they are asking for. (Using McStain's interpretation)
I heard Warren make the statement that SCOTUS would not agree with the interpretation. This is crappolla!
SCOTUS practically begged Congress to put in writing what article three means, because they did not think it their job to do so.
These Senators are trying to punt this back to the courts, in the middle, or possibly the beginning of a long conflict where our asses are on the line. They are angry with SCOTUS and the president fo making them work. They don't like their responsibilities being shoved at them and are trying to send a message but have brought a McCain to a Bush fight.
The vagueness of the language is impossible to work with. They will interpret it, or the House will do it.
I'm thinking about going fishing right now. But, in the meantime, I'd just figure I'd bait the water around here and see if somebody had a good conspiracy theory.
Protect a terrorist from abuse today...kill them.
mark
A Mexican Radio Station out of Hillsdale Michigan is reporting that the President will make known his Desired Changes, to the Chase for the Nextel Cup format. Including more points for wins and Amnesty for Tony Stewart. Apparently Brian France won't take his calls. President Bush was highly disappointed that Smoke didn't make it....
OBL??????

Oh My! 11 Characters!!!!!
I can just hear those two saying........Did we do alright Hillary? Huh? Huh?
Pelosi already cast the pre-emptive strike by saying "it really doesn't matter now; it's too late" in regards to if he is killed/caught.
They will then focus on the Bash-Bush-Iraq-Afghanistan "quagmire" rhetoric.
